Job Summary

The Community Engagement team at Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank is an integral facet of the organization’s everyday operations. The Community Engagement Team works to recruit, schedule, and retain more than 7000 volunteers per year to support the Food Bank’s mission.

This AmeriCorps member will help research and identify new potential community volunteer individuals and groups that may be interested in volunteering with the Food Bank’s essential programs including The Market, Volunteer Engagement Center, Direct-Distributions, Food Bank Farm, and gleaning program. This position will also help the community engagement team increase their capacity by helping to manage volunteers at our location in Duquesne.

This summer position starts on June 3, 2024 and must complete 450 hours to successfully fulfill their KEYS Service Corps responsibilities. Please visit https://keysservicecorps.alleghenycounty.us/ for more information about the KEYS Service Corps program.

Key Responsibilities

Volunteer Engagement

• Research community organizations, university groups, religious organizations, etc who may be interested in volunteering in various Food Bank programs.

• Raise awareness and develop volunteer pool through the use of various marketing tools including a volunteer database, email blasts and other communications.

• Coordinate and schedule volunteers on an on-going basis, or a single event, to provide necessary support for the Food Bank.

• Assist with volunteer management by greeting volunteers, providing a safety speech, responding to volunteer inquiries, etc.

• Improve volunteer accessibility and inclusion efforts by helping to create inclusion guides for staff and volunteers and putting together accessibility bags with both physical and instructional aids (provided by Corporate and Community Engagement Manager), etc.

• Aid in the development and execution of stewardship activities such as summer volunteer picnic.

Requirements

Qualifications:

• Excellent organizational, communication and writing skills; strong interpersonal skills; ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

• Ability to maintain positive attitude and work environment; ability to work with a diverse group of people.

• Ability to work with communities to engage and recruit volunteers through various channels.

• Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
