Gymnastics/Dance/Art Summer Camp Counselor

The Position

Under the direction of the Program Manager, a Gymnastics/Dance/Art Camp Counselor will assume a role within summer camps; should have a strong background in any of the three areas and feel comfortable working with small children up to more experienced students. Must be confident, professional, and able to have constant communication with parents. They will take responsibility for the health, safety, and general welfare of the campers under their supervision. Implement procedures that enhance the quality of the program and provide a safe, structured environment for the campers.

Major Job Responsibilities

• Teach and progress children safely and appropriately through all aspects and disciplines of gymnastics, dance, and/or art.
• Ensure that facilities, equipment, and supplies are secured at all times.
• Monitor children’s skills and progress through the camp season.
• Lead a variety of activities, including singing, games, and crafts.
• Communicate effectively with Counselors, Campers, Parents and the Program Manager.
• Account for all assigned campers at all times.
• Follow the daily schedule.  Maintain discipline and safety.
• Be positive, demonstrate enthusiasm and show engagement with campers at all times.
• Keep the Program Manager informed of all special problems and needs.

Qualification Requirements

• Minimum age of 16 years or older.
• CPR/First Aid/AED; preferred but not required.
• Excellent people skills; ability to work with a wide variety of personalities.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• At least 1 year of camp experience; preferred.
• Gymnastics, dance, and/or art experience; required.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to demonstrate gymnastics or dance movements.
• Lifting small children when necessary.
• Bending, twisting, and reaching required.
• Must demonstrate and execute proper spotting during stunts of all levels.
• Ability to continuously physically engage at a child’s level.
