DEPUTY DIRECTOR

OFFICE OF COMMUNITY SECURITY (OCS)
ABOUT THE FEDERATION

ABOUT THE OFFICE OF COMMUNITY SECURITY
The Office of Community Security (OCS) is tasked with implementing a tangible strategic plan to foster a safe and secure Jewish community in Miami-Dade County. The Deputy Director of Community Security supports the Director, and the initiatives and solutions related to establishing and monitoring community-wide security policies, guidelines, standards, and priorities. This is accomplished through education, community training, identifying vulnerabilities and physically securing Jewish institutions to minimize risk.
YOUR ROLE

  • EVENTS AND COMMUNITY INITIATIVES: The Office convenes numerous programs, initiatives, and events throughout the year. Each requires detailed support in executing the logistics and administration of security, liaisoning with GMJF divisions, developing operational plans for community events, and ensuring the details are implemented.
  • PROGRAM LOGISTICAL SUPPORT: The Office of Community Security is responsible for the creation of programs that elevate the landscape of security community-wide. The Deputy Director will be responsible for the logistical components of each initiative. These are but some aspects of the position’s role as it pertains to the Community.
  • FACILITY SECURITY FUNCTIONS: The Deputy Director oversees security staff matters and makes recommendations to the Director as to personnel, technology, and safety.
  • THREAT AND VULNERABILITY RISK ASSESSMENTS: The Deputy Director conducts TVRA’s for institutions requiring assistance in identifying vulnerabilities and determining solutions related to facility infrastructure.
  • INTELLIGENCE OVERSIGHT: Oversee intelligence platforms, research potential threats, ensure integrations with hardware and software function as intended, and collaborate with intelligence resource partners in local, federal, and private spaces.
  • TRAINING: This position will require working with Community partners and participating in Jewish and non-Jewish events related to the promotion of safety and security. The Deputy Director will assist the Director in teaching courses related to civilian response to active threats, situational awareness, and other courses intended to elevate the readiness of each of these institutions.
  • COMMUNITY RESPONSE: The position requires responding to and assisting Jewish organizations and partner facilities in emergencies, in the event of the Director’s absence.
  • The position requires the ability to not only work within diverse backgrounds and spaces but also to construct and further relationships utilizing an inclusionary foundation.
  • Investigate security-related incidents and report findings and recommendations for corrective action to the Director of Community Security.
  • Co-developing training materials and course content tailored to varied knowledge levels.
  • Coordinate meetings with other staff and Community partners.
  • Research security-related products and technology and integration with security systems.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND CORE COMPETENCIES

  • Excellent computer skills: This includes basic programs such as Word, Excel, and Powerpoint; Microsoft Suite. The ability to understand and learn new technology quickly.
  • Excellent people skills: Able to effectively communicate and provide high levels of professionalism and confidence to community members, including high-level leadership. Excellent interpersonal skills are required.
  • Planning/Organizing: Strong organization skills and attention to detail. The ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and see processes through to fruition.
  • Highly efficient:Good time management with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Writing ability: Very Strong writing skills. Detail oriented.
  • Adaptability/Fast Paced: Able to work in a dynamic environment with constant activity, managing multiple, competing demands and the ability to deal with unexpected events.
  • Effective in navigating dialogue using sound judgment when incorporating various life experiences into training and presentations.
  • Knowledge of the Jewish Community, history, holidays, culture, and an understanding as they relate to daily practices. (Preferred, not required)
  • Self-disciplined and Self-motivated – able to operate without constant supervision.
  • Excellent self-organization.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred and a minimum of 10 years of experience in law enforcement, corporate, government, or related field. Ability to pass a background check. A combination of education, experience, skills, and abilities will be taken into consideration as it relates to the totality of qualifications.
