SUMMARY 

The mission of the Greater Cleveland Food Bank is to ensure that everyone in our communities has the nutritious food they need every day. The Community Access Root Cause Coordinator supports this mission by identifying barriers to community benefits access for neighbors, while working to elevate issues at the local and state level. This position will be responsible for overseeing the Neighbor Experience Committee to engage and uplift community members’ experience around benefit access. This position also requires the Coordinator to build partnerships with community navigator organizations and work to increase overall community benefits access in all 6 counties.

Requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. This list is not all-inclusive and other duties may be assigned. 

  • Oversees Neighbor Experience Committee recruitment, planning and education to uplift neighbor’s experiences with hunger and benefits access. Coordinates all neighborhood experience meetings and correspondence dissemination to participants.
  • Collaborates with the Community Access Manager and Community Access Coordinator and Advocacy team to elevate neighbors’ experiences through in person advocacy, letters and emails to legislators and food bank stakeholders. Works closely with the Advocacy team to ensure community members have opportunities to engage in Advocacy and fulfills all requests for community representation at Advocacy events.
  • Engages with a network of external community assisters to increase community benefit access to underserved communities.
  • Coordinates efforts to increase community benefit access and oversees communication with CJFS’ dedicated line.
  • Attends community collaborative meetings to engage potential application assisters and shares information and updates regarding programming at GCFB
  • Responsible for escalating referrals to Legal Aid and taking action to ensure Legal Aid has taken action once received.
  • Supports ongoing education for internal staff on current SNAP, public benefit policy guidelines, and ODJFS processes. 
  • Assists and participates in external trainings on SNAP and other public benefits.
  • Elevates SNAP policy changes that help to reduce barriers for individuals accessing public benefits. 
  • Works with the Ohio Association of Food Banks and statewide community advocates to identify local SNAP access issues in the state.
  • Assists with JFS onsite relationship at CRC to streamline procedures and increase efficiency.
  • Develops materials and other communications materials related to SNAP access.
  • Maintains required job knowledge and skills and core professional competencies. 
  • Attends and participates in required educational programs and trainings. 
  • Participate in one of the following: LEAN council, a kaizen or 5S campaign to support continuous improvement and improved processes within the food bank.
  • Support all Outreach team functions at the Community Resource Center
  • Supports the demands of the Community Resource Center as needed.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s Degree required. Required commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive work environment as demonstrated through work, life or community experience. A minimum of two years in social service/non-profit sector, experience in helping individuals apply for public benefits and having knowledge of SNAP and Medicaid policy. Must possess outstanding communication skills with strong attention to detail. Must be able to effectively work in a team atmosphere with highly diverse people. Must be oriented towards efficient problem solving, multi-tasking and teamwork. Proficiency in Windows based computer software required. The ability to execute and coordinate virtual meetings. Database experience is preferred. Unencumbered driver’s license is required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.While performing the duties of this job, the employee is sometimes exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Employee will be required to travel to various locations in the community.

Salary Range: $52,000 - $54,000 per year
