RESTORATIVE PRACTICE COORDINATOR

GCI is a place-based community development organization that serves students, residents and business owners working together to restore the health and strength of our Greater Chatham neighborhoods (Chatham, Auburn Gresham, Greater Grand Crossing, and Avalon Park).
Job Summary:
Greater Chatham Initiative seeks a Restorative Practice Coordinator to serve the neighborhoods of Chatham and Greater Grand Crossing. Greater Chatham’s Restorative Practice is consistent with the Greater Chatham Initiative Public Safety strategies to,
· Engage youth in promoting a peaceful community through engagement events
· Increase access to social-emotional learning and trauma-informed support services
The Greater Chatham Initiative has introduced >2,000 adults and youths to Restorative Practice and trained >80 persons to become Circle-Keepers. In 2024-2025, we continue to train mostly middle school students, and some high schoolers and adults in Restorative Practice goals and strategies. The Restorative Practice Coordinator will support and nurture targeted coaching activities for students and residents.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Carry out the Greater Chatham Initiative’s school year curriculum.
Build restorative mindsets and capacity for local Chatham and Greater Grand Crossing school children and residents to implement the following Restorative Practices:
· Restorative conversations
· Talking circles
· Peace circles
· Restorative conferences including a World Café during which Circle Keepers can explore and commit to offering types of circles for distinct audiences
· Facilitate Circle Keeper development
· Thought-partnering, collaborative reflection, and planning to reach at risk youths
· Modeling, co-facilitating, and observing Restorative Practices implementation
· Small-group and workshops
Consultation to schools, after school programs, block clubs, and school teams on the development and implementation of systems and structures for Restorative Practices.
Proactively address questions and concerns staff, students, and community stakeholders have about Restorative Practices and implement strategies to gain stakeholder buy-in.
Create and track activities and write monthly reports
Participate in Restorative Practices Professional Learning Community
Required Skills and Experience
· Expert understanding of Restorative Practices and restorative discipline models
· Ability to build resident engagement efficiently and strategically within the constraints of limited resources including building relationships with and have formal Memorandums of Understanding with 3-5 ally groups
· Neighborhood cultural competency and the ability to navigate and promote sensitivity to issues of race, lifestyle, equity, and psychosocial factors
· Develop experience in using and coaching others to use restorative mindsets, restorative language, talking circles, restorative conversations, and peace circles
· Ability to develop respectful professional relationships, build trust in a limited time, and engage and inform community leaders, staff, and students around Restorative Practices
· Ability to handle multiple projects and responsibilities and work at multiple sites
· Competency with Google Drive, Dropbox, and Microsoft Office
· Professionalism in the areas of punctuality, documentation, organization, and phone/email responsiveness
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications
· Master’s degree in social work preferred. Other studies include Community Organizing, Social Work, Social Justice, Criminal Justice, Counseling, Psychology, Human Resources, Instructional Design, or related field.
· 3 or more years of on-the-job experience providing restorative practice circle keeping in an African American community.
· 3 or more years of classroom management of middle schoolers.
· Preferably, has deep knowledge of the Chatham and Greater Grand Crossing Chicago neighborhoods.
Preferred Qualifications
· 1 year of experience working within a fast-paced community-based nonprofit or school.
· 1 year of experience carrying out Train-the-Trainer projects or practicums that advanced clients’ knowledge and skills based on qualitative feedback and data.
· 3 year of experience managing projects involving multiple deliverables, client interaction and use of a project management tool.
· Experience collaborating across teams, relaying information in an easily digestible way to clients, understanding client needs, and assigning tasks to teammates.
· Experience leading campaigns with various stakeholders and deliverables to timely and effective completion.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
· Strong attention to detail and the ability manage multiple projects, establish workload priorities, and meet deadlines.
· Excellent interpersonal skills along with the ability and willingness to respect and value the differences and perceptions of different groups/individuals to provide efficient, quality service to both internal and external customers.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to interface with internal and external contacts diplomatically and effectively at a variety of levels.
· Ability to be resourceful and flexible while maintaining a results-oriented customer service focus.
