Introduction

Computed Tomography (CT) Technologists use computerized tomography scanners to produce cross section images of patients’ internal organs and tissues for the diagnosis of medical issues.

Job Responsibilities

• Use CT equipment to capture diagnostic images of patients’ internal organs and tissues.
• Appropriately position patients to scan specific areas of their bodies.
• Perform regular warm up sequences on the CT scanner to prolong the life of the x-ray tubes.
• Sterilize radiologic equipment to ensure the safety of patients.
• Correctly interpret doctors’ written scanning instructions.
• Administer radiocontrast agents to patients to enhance the visibility of internal organs and tissues.
• Evaluate CT scans to determine whether they are of good technical quality.
• Explain canning procedures to patients and provide reassurance and support as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned

CT Technologist Requirements

• Associates degree in Radiologic Technology.
• Current Radiologic Technologist license issued by the NYSDOH.
• BLS and ACLS certifications from the American Heart Association preferred.
• Post primary certification in computed tomography issued by the ARRT.
• IV certification.
• Sound knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology.
