In a Product Owner, Data Management role You'll:

As a member of the Product Management team, the Data Product Owner coordinates with peer Product Owners, peer Technology Leaders and business areas on the Agile Release Train (ART) to ensure all aspects of data needs meet requirements, scope and vision. In this role the primary responsibility of the Data Product Owner will be to work closely with the ETG and Data Analytics Leadership teams as epics and features are created to develop the data product roadmap and backlog.

The Data Team user stories will be defined and documented by the Data Product Owner through close collaboration with GreatAmerica internal teams (sales, marketing, systems, operational and finance), customers, and other external sources. This role will apply proven communication, analytical and project management skills in a self-driven environment. Working with decision makers and across teams, the Data Product Owner will identify and prioritize solutions. Regular communication with key stakeholders inside and outside GreatAmerica will be crucial.


Responsibilities

  • Contributes to and owns the execution of the product vision, strategy and roadmap for the GreatAmerica organization
  • Understand the key needs for the data consumers including data sources, data ingestion needs and data integration points
  • Translates business needs from peer Product Owners into features and user stories to support the underlying data components
  • Partners with the Data Architect to understand the data model changes and approach in collecting, storing, organizing and accessing organizational data
  • Defines, writes, and prioritizes user stories which direct the design and development of work for the data team
  • Own a scrum team backlog and work day-to-day with the team to lead the delivery and execution of prioritized features and story backlogs
  • Coordinates dependencies with other Product Owners when results are dependent on another team for completion
  • Participate in System demonstrations to ensure solutions are implemented that meet the intent of the vision and strategy across the Agile Release Train
  • Determines when user stories have delivered the desired outcome and decides when to go to production
  • Serve as data knowledge resource for scrum team as well as peer product teams
  • Maintain an in-depth knowledge of all appropriate data sources and stay ahead of changes
  • Serve as a liaison between functional areas and technology to ensure that data-related business requirements are clearly defined, communicated, and well understood and considered as part of operational prioritization and planning
  • Partners with peer Product Owners to develop best in class data management strategies and tools to ensure accuracy of data throughout GreatAmerica
  • Internally, the candidate must interface with many departments and organizations
  • Provide and communicate clear definition of the product and the roadmap
  • Review and analyze existing functionality of current product
  • Identify proactive improvement and holistic enhancements to product
  • Develop deep knowledge of affected business areas and the product
  • Evaluate business drivers and technology requirements to define specifications that meet business needs

    Knowledge and Experience

  • Experience in product management, product development, strategic planning, process management, change delivery, or agile product owner experience, or equivalent. Prefer for that experience to be within the financial services industry, but not required.
  • 2 years of Agile experience
  • 5 years of experience in a combination of the following functional areas: data/technology strategy, data pipeline management, data platforms, data streaming, data architecture, data governance, data quality, systems integration, analytics and business intelligence.
  • Hands-on involvement and exposure to high performing data platforms in a variety of ecosystems
  • Ability to lead through influence and elicit requirements from business and technology stakeholders.
  • Combination of business and technical knowledge of the product and processes used to deliver value to our Customers
  • Serve in a solutions-oriented consultant role that promotes change and process improvement
  • Entrepreneurial attitude, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment
  • Experience developing cloud and business intelligence data capabilities
  • Demonstrated self-starter who is goal oriented, a critical thinker and a creative problem solver
  • Strong negotiation skills and ability to develop and manage stakeholder expectations.
  • Ability to work with internal stakeholders to build consensus on key elements of strategy
  • Acts as a primary point of contact to maintain a strong and collaborative relationship with all stakeholders
  • Should have experience managing cross-company business relationships
  • Effectively displays solid leadership skills and the ability to influence without authority
  • Strong sense of urgency and follow through in addressing issues and meeting timelines
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills to build credibility
  • Exceptional communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Must be able to multi-task and have a combination of organizational and analytical skills

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or equivalent required.

Experience: Minimum 8 years practical work experience in project management/business analyst role in a complex business and systems environment. Broad understanding of business processes and project management concepts required. Will need to have a thorough understanding of customer needs, industry trends and GreatAmerica’s position within our markets. In-depth knowledge of Scrum and Agile Software Development Methodology ideal but not required.
