    Job Description
    Summary/objective
    The career advisor will be responsible for assisting to provide career advisement to students; guide applicants with the online application process; import, organize, and update online applications; assist with recruitment, enrollment, career planning and placement activities.
    Essential functions
    • Assists with career advisement, planning, and enrollment with current and prospective students
    • Be familiar with course of study and program curriculum for all full-time and short-term programs, to better serve potential students, students, and patrons of GPTC
    • Update and maintain paper and electronic files on all students as needed
    • Guide applicants, local school counselors, and clients with the online application process and trouble shoot online application issues as they arise
    • Import online applications
    • Determine if applicants need to be merged
    • Update applicants’ information as needed
    • Keep online queue organized
    • Keep a monthly spreadsheet of applicants
    Competencies
    • Subject Knowledge: Possess a deep understanding of all GPTC full-time and short-term courses.
    • Customer Service: Be consistently courteous and helpful to customers of diverse populations, acknowledge regular customers, work to resolve issues quickly even when it requires extra work and being positive and friendly even in difficult situations.
    • Computer Skills: Possess intermediate computer skills and be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook functions. Have knowledge of or ability to learn the student accounting information system.
    • Communication Skills: Be an effective communicator both in writing and verbally, able to convey information clearly and concisely to students, colleagues, and parents. Listen actively and respond appropriately to student inquiries, concerns, and feedback.
    • Professionalism: Demonstrate professionalism in all aspects of their work, including preparation, punctuality, attendance, and commitment to ongoing professional development. Work collaboratively with colleagues and other stakeholders.
    Supervisory responsibilities
    None
    Work environment
    The career advisor typically works in an office environment, but the mission of the school may require work other settings. A standard workweek is required but this position may also require evening or weekend hours.
    Physical demands
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to remain stationary, move/position objects, move about their office, building and/or across campus, respond to emergency situations and communicate with staff, parents, and students. Employee may be required to perform extensive work at a computer display terminal.
    Travel required
    Occasional travel within and outside of the Great Plains Technology Center district may be required for sponsorship of student activities, professional development, and participation in other Great Plains Technology Center activities.
    Required education and experience
    • High school diploma or equivalency
    Preferred education and experience
    • Knowledge of Career Technology Center courses
    • Bachelor’s degree
