Weld School Instructor - 1st Shift - Abilene West

Great Plains Manufacturing has an opening for a Technical Training Instructor for our new Weld School in the Abilene West Facility. The Technical Training Instructor will facilitate a 9-week full time course to develop new Welders for Great Plains Manufacturing. The Weld School will use a combination of class room instruction and skill practice to train new welders on production welding processes used at Great Plains. The school will focus on GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding), fixture usage, weld coupons and sizes, plasma cutting, and robotic welding basics. Students must perform at Great Plains production standards to successfully complete this program. The hours will be Monday thru Thurs. 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Responsibilities:

• Train Weld students to meet quality and production standards.
• Facilitate class room training and production weld training in the practice weld bays.
• Follow-up on employee quality and productivity standards once they are assigned to their weld team.
• Provide coaching and feedback during training program to aid with continuous improvement.
• Consistently initiate and implement improvements to the Weld School program.
• Perform production welding between technical training classes as needed.
• Follow all Great Plains and OSHA safety regulations and wear prescribed safety and protective equipment.
• Other duties may be assigned that require other qualifications, physical demands, and/or work environment.

Skills and Qualifications Include:

• Work well with all plant managers and department managers. 
• Previous on-the-job experience training welders.
• Ability to create a technical training plan based on student’s background and experience.
• Proficient in training students to load and run robot welders and hand weld to plant production standards.
• Proficient with Great Plains’ Weld Machines and all weld processes.
• Demonstrated commitment to safety, and serves as a role model in safety behavior and wearing PPE.
• 3-5 years of weld experience and completion of vo-tech or community college weld program.
• Able to read and understand blue prints and engineering symbols.
• Strong computer skills in Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication; bi-lingual in English and Spanish preferred.
• Technical Training Instructor will work day shift during school and able to work split shift to support supervisor or lead in facilitating student transition to department after completes school.
