Great Plains Food Bank is Hiring a Volunteer Associate Near Fargo, ND

VOLUNTEER ASSOCIATE

Accountable to: Volunteer Manager

Department: Volunteer Services/Operations

Employment Status: Non-exempt

Hours: Full-time (40 hours/week)

Position Purpose

The Volunteer Associate is responsible for assisting in the planning and implementation of various volunteer projects to carry out the mission and vision of the Great Plains Food Bank operations to end hunger throughout the state. This position will coordinate projects including planning and scheduling, support the operations of the organization through engaging volunteers and give tours, as well as cleaning and assisting the Volunteer Manager and Operations Director in other duties as needed. The Volunteer Associate is expected to adhere to and to train volunteers on proper food handling, including cleaning and sanitizing in accordance with the American Institute of Baking (AIB) requirements.

Essential Duties and Core Accountabilities

  • Volunteer Recruitment & Engagement
  • Assist in recruiting and selection of volunteers for projects; assess skill sets of volunteers to ensure proper project selection;
  • Track volunteer hours and related information in database; recognize volunteers through thank you letters, photos, and special events;
  • Engage community in volunteer opportunities within the program and provide warehouse tours to volunteers; creates an atmosphere in which timely and high quality information flows smoothly Throughout the tours and volunteer events
  • Clarify and interpret information, and establish and maintain relationships; demonstrates responsibility for the image and effectiveness of the organization;
  • Project Coordination
  • Assist in planning, scheduling, and implementation of projects; prioritize and organize work load;
  • develop and establish processes for repacking of products; establish timelines for projects adequately forecasting volunteer needs based on project timing and needs;
  • Set up projects including design of work areas; ensure proper materials and packing supplies are readily available;
  • Train volunteers on proper food handling and standards; supervise volunteers throughout the project duration; collaborate internally on volunteerism projects to ensure effective service delivery;
  • Ensure work area is cleaned and sanitized in accordance with AIB standards; organize and clean repack room when needed or assigned
  • Reporting & Paperwork
  • Ensure adequate inventory of needed supplies;
  • Print necessary documents and labels for volunteers;
  • Maintain spreadsheet of volunteer hours for reporting purposes; complete paperwork as required;
  • Provide documentation of volunteer hours and recognition; keep accurate inventory and item weights to ensure conformance to procedures;
  • Community Engagement
  • Attends volunteer network meetings;
  • engages community in volunteer opportunities within the program
  • provides warehouse tours to potential volunteers and the general public
  • enhances food drive programs through effective partnerships with individuals and organizations
  • Other Duties
  • Attend meetings and trainings as required
  • Complete yearly work plan and set strategic goals
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and Experience

High School diploma required. Prior experience working with volunteers preferred. Forklift Certification within 60 days of hire date, along with Serv Safe Certification, and AIB Training within 90 days of employment. Valid driver's license.
