FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Starting Rate: $9.06/hourly

Reports to: Wellness Director Revision Date: 12/30/2019
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Wellness Director and in accordance with the Christian mission and purpose of the Great Miami Valley YMCA Association, the Wellness Coach is responsible for assisting in membership development and retention through quality leadership and continuous follow through with membership engagement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Exhibits an outgoing and enthusiastic personality at all times.
  • Greets all members in a professional and friendly manner, using their names whenever possible, and offering to assist them with work out needs.
  • Regularly circulates the Wellness Center to actively and purposefully interact with and engage members. Also circulates the Wellness Center to supervise member workouts and provide constructive yet positive feedback to support individual goal achievement.
  • Understands the basic components of a safe and effective exercise program.
  • Conducts ActivTrax appointments for new members in order to educate them on exercise principles and establish good workout habits.
  • Makes accurate assessments of an individual’s progress and suggests appropriate changes when needed. Maintains sensitivity and patience in interactions with members in the Wellness Center helping to minimize any intimidation or other barriers to achieving their individual wellness goals.
  • Identifies members who may be using unsafe or hazardous exercises in the Wellness Center and suggests alternate exercises that are safe yet meet individual’s intended wellness goals.
  • Listens to and responds appropriately to the needs of Wellness Center members.
  • Follows all YMCA policies and procedures and enforces all posted policies and guidelines of the Wellness Center.
  • Ensures the cleanliness and maintenance of all Wellness Center equipment. Reports any damaged or broken equipment to the appropriate contact(s).

QUALIFICATIONS (ALSO CALLED ENTRY REQUIREMENTS OR KNOW HOW):
  • Education: A high school diploma or the equivalent is required.
  • Experience: Nationally accepted certifications are preferred (i.e. ACE, NASM, NSCA, ACSM). No certification required.
  • Must possess or have willingness to obtain CPR, First Aid, AED, and Oxygen Administration within 60 days of hire.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability working with all age groups and ability levels.
  • Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Ability to stand and be mobile majority of work shift.
  • Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper techniques.
  • Physically able to successfully complete required job functions, including use of hands, arms, fingers, able to talk and hear, use a computer, sit and stand, regularly move/lift up to 50 pounds, enter all YMCA environments (office spaces, indoor and outdoor maintenance/mechanical areas, fitness areas, pool and pool space, camping areas, unimproved outdoor locations and other program areas).
  • Maintenance and housekeeping of fitness and cardio equipment. Bending, lifting, spotting weightlifters, moving, standing up to and including entire shift, ability to get down to the floor and back up.
  • Ability to stretch, lift up to 50lbs and move heavy equipment on a daily basis.
  • Ability to recognize and react calmly and effectively in the event of an emergency.
Shifts Available: (AM) 5:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.; (PM) 4:00 p.m. - 10:p.m.
