Title: Custodian/Housekeeper
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Starting Pay Rate: $13.50/hourly
Status: Full Time Department: Building Services

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Operations Director and in accordance with the Christian mission and purpose of the Great Miami Valley YMCA Association, the Custodian/Housekeeper is responsible for ensuring the effective physical cleanliness of all assigned facilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Performs all housekeeping duties and ensures all standards are met in accordance with YMCA guidelines and standards.
  • Adheres to housekeeping schedules as designed by Director of Properties and Facilities
  • Communicates to the Director of Properties and Facilities inventories of custodial supplies, equipment and materials needed to be ordered to operate facility and maintain property in a safe manner and in accordance with ADA and OSHA regulations.
  • Makes detergents/germicide solution according to manufacturer’s formula. Follows
manufacturer’s procedures for use of product.
  • Keeps written records required and ensures all safety and risk management procedures are adhered to.
  • Communicates with Management staff items needing repair and any unusual building/grounds conditions.
  • Attends training programs when requested, designed to achieve a high level of compliance in the areas of building housekeeping.
  • Upholds and exemplifies the principles of the YMCA Member Service Program.
  • Performs housekeeping duties that will include but not be limited to sweeping floors, mopping floors, cleaning toilets, wiping down walls, dusting, polishing, cleaning windows, cleaning counter tops, cleaning sinks and vacuuming.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Experience: Prior experience in a housekeeping/custodial environment required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • The position requires full range of motion, including manual and finger dexterity and eye/hand coordination. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Requires working irregular hours and late night hours.
  • The position further requires good technical skills in housekeeping related areas.
  • This position will from time to time be required to move equipment, go up and down ladders, put up and take down tables, lift boxes weighing up to 40 pounds, put up stock, and travel up and down steps.
  • The position requires the ability to work efficiently and effectively in an unsupervised environment and requires strong communication skills.
