Hospital Patient Advocate

POSITION SUMMARY

The Hospital Patient Advocate’s primary responsibilities include working on-site at one of our hospitals, guiding patients through the process of obtaining medical eligibility and acting as the patients’ liaison while working with governmental agencies, all the while providing them excellent customer service and responsiveness.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work closely with patients to assist in completion of the Medicaid application
  • Visit patient’s bedside to screen for Medicaid
  • Follow through with applicants to obtain accurate information while working within strict timeframes
  • Process information from uninsured patients in order to determine if they are qualified for medical assistance
  • Maintain work queue of patient accounts
  • Accurately record pertinent information into Great Lakes’ internal database
  • Responsible for calling the patients to acquire information necessary to complete application on their behalf
  • Good computer skills, ability to learn with ease the different kinds of computer programs our hospitals use (Epic, Cerner, Meditech, Paragon) strong adaptability to technology

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or GED. Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • 2 years’ experience in a hospital or medical clinic/medical office environment
  • Intermediate understanding of health insurance, Medicaid and Medicare preferred
  • Strong ability to prioritize and organize while multi-tasking
  • Exceptional customer service skills and professional phone manner
  • Experience with EPIC, preferred
  • MUST BE FULLY VACCINATED FOR COVID-19
  • MUST BE ABLE TO PASS DRUG TEST AND BACKGROUND CHECK
  • MUST BE WILLING TO RECEIVE FLU SHOT
  • Experience as a Financial Counselor, preferred
