What is Information Security?

Grant Thornton US (GTUS) Information Security (InfoSec) is dedicated to ensuring that we keep GT and our clients safe from the ever-changing security vulnerabilities and threats that exist out there. With a dedicated staff including employees and consultants, Information Security is engaged daily to protect against various threats to our network, data, end users and more. In an event that a security incident occurs, Information Security is responsible for identifying, mitigating and remediating any risks that may be harmful to the firm, its clients or its employees. As a result of the continuous efforts of Information Security you can rest assured that you can conduct business safely and securely. At the same time, Information Security does depend on cooperation and collaboration with everybody in the firm to ensure that our networks, systems, data, and end users are working in a secure environment.

Position Summary:

Grant Thornton’s InfoSec Intern will participate in an 8-week program in the area of Cyber Defense Operations. This internship will also work closely with Grant Thornton’s Enterprise Transformation (ET) team and intern program.

InfoSec Internship Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Cyber Defense team is a specialized and collaborative group focused on safeguarding an organization's digital assets from cyber threats. Comprising experts in network security, threat intelligence, incident response, and vulnerability management, the team actively identifies, mitigates, and responds to potential security risks. Through the use of advanced tools and methodologies, they monitor network traffic, prevent unauthorized access, and ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of critical data. Constantly adapting to emerging threats, the team fortifies the organization's defenses, enforces security policies, and plays a pivotal role in maintaining a resilient security posture, instilling confidence in stakeholders regarding the protection of sensitive information.

Support the Cyber Defense team’s Operational Readiness. This position’s responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist with the triage of threats and vulnerabilities that could potentially impact GT.
  • Provide necessary analysis of potential threats and create awareness communications as needed.
  • Communicate threat and risk related issues across the organization as per established communication procedures.
  • Contribute to operational management activities, ensuring the efficiency of cyber defense operations and coordinating renewals for essential tools and services.
  • Collaborate with the Cyber Defense team to streamline internal processes and optimize resource utilization, contributing to the ongoing enhancement of cybersecurity workflows and effectiveness.

InfoSec Qualifications:

  • Pursuing degrees in: Information Security, Information Technology, Cyber Security Engineering, Computer Science, etc.

  • Strong performing student academically with interest in technology and a creative mindset
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to convey technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
