Job Summary :

The Student Formative Assessment Specialist will work with the Assessment Department on the creation, management, and analysis of a wide spectrum of assessments.

The Student Formative Assessment Specialist supports Kindergarten through 12th grade teachers in the creation of high-quality assessments to effectively assess the learning of core standards based on levels of proficiency.

This position will work collaboratively with curriculum specialists to ensure a strong link with core standards and assessments.

This specialist will manage assessments using a district-wide platform (SchoolCity and others) to ensure access to district benchmarks, school common formative assessments, district item banks for proficiency-based learning, and classroom assessments.

This specialist will help develop custom reports (using tools such as Powerbi) to allow principals and teachers to analyze and interpret data for the purpose of improving instruction.

The Student Formative Assessment Specialist provides training on request by schools and seeks opportunities to improve the use of formative assessment tools.

This position will be responsible to ensure compliance with Granite School District and Utah state testing guidelines, specifically supporting high school testing teams.

This position also works with a variety of stakeholders (registrars, school administrators, special education specialists, counselors, etc.

to ensure accurate completion coding of students for high school graduation.

Essential Functions :

  • Provide professional development experiences in assessment for multiple content areas in multiple modalities.
  • Support teachers in the implementation of proficiency-based learning and grading.
  • Develop assessment materials for use by Granite teachers.
  • Participate in assigned committees.
  • Support district-wide programs and initiatives.
  • Maintain professional competence through professional learning activities provided by the school district and self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Participate in department meetings as required.
  • Participate in appropriate educator evaluation procedures as per district guidelines.
  • Model professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, colleagues, and members of the community.
  • Understand and adhere to relevant laws, district policies, and procedures.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, school staff, district staff, and members of the community.
  • Demonstrate professional ethics as outlined by the Utah Professional Practices Advisory Commission.
  • Be a positive role model.

Non-essential Functions :

  • Understand Granite’s proficiency-based teaching and grading.
  • Possess strong oral and written communication skills
  • Possess strong computer and educational technological skills, including use of Microsoft Office tools to create documents, presentations, spreadsheets, and data bases.
  • Analysis skills using Microsoft Excel or other platforms.
  • Skill and experience training students / staff in professional development settings.
  • Skill and experience in providing technical support to students / staff.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with core standards and concepts of quality assessment practice.
  • Ability to coordinate with schools, school district, Utah State Board of Education, and private vendors regarding assessments.
  • Ability to work independently with little direct supervision and as part of a team.
  • Ability to accepts responsibility and be self-motivated.
  • Ability to effectively multi-task, manage time, and be highly organized.

Required Education and Qualifications :

  • Requires a Utah State Board of Education (USBE) cleared criminal background check.
  • Requires one of the following : a valid Professional Educator License issued by the Utah State Board of Education with a license area of concentration in one of the following : Early Childhood Education;

Elementary; Secondary; or Special Education; or an equivalent license in another state.

Required Prior Experience :

Requires a minimum of three (3) years of prior classroom teaching experience.

Assigned Decision Making :

Empowered to work autonomously on projects to reach goals outlined by supervisor.

Non-Supervisory Interaction :

  • Interacts and collaborates with employees, board members, patrons, vendors, administrators and secretaries in schools.
  • Works with various department secretaries, coordinators, managers and directors.

Working Environment :

  • Work takes place in a typical office environment, but with assignments that require traveling to various school locations within Granite School District.
