Grandville Public School District is Hiring an Elementary Teacher Near Grandville, MI

SUMMARY: To create a flexible, interesting, and engaging elementary grade program and a class environment that is conducive to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with pupils; to motivate pupils to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for an elementary grade education, in accordance with each pupil’s ability; to establish good relationships with parents and other staff members.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Arts degree (minimum).
  • Valid teaching certificate.
  • Ability to read, to analyze, and to interpret general business, professional and technical documents or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff and the general public.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plan and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of current knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program.
  • Ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents.
  • Skill in oral written communication.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
  • May occasionally push or lift up to 50 lbs such as boxes of books and AV/VCR carts.
  • Requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties as assigned)

  • Teaches district approved core curriculum consisting of standards for each grade level.
  • Instructs pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional material and provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
  • Translates lesson plans into developmentally appropriate learning experiences, provides opportunities for meaningful movement.
  • Communicates regularly with parents outside normal classroom day by means of newsletters, notes, phone calls, conferences, etc.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior to achieve an effective classroom atmosphere that is relaxed, calm and conducive to learning.
  • Evaluates pupil’s academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports.
  • Uses assessments to plan instruction.
  • Identifies pupil needs and makes appropriate referrals for SSTs and develops strategies for individual education plans.
  • Is available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day.
  • Plans and coordinates the work of parapros, parents, and volunteers in the classroom and on field trips.
  • Provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of the student and makes sure that students are actually engaged in the learning.
  • Creates an environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, learning centers and exhibits of student’s work.
  • Supervises classroom and students and volunteers.
  • Incorporates technology into the curriculum through the use of computers, the internet, digital photos and video streaming.
  • Writing and Reading instruction is balanced with guided reading, shared reading and independent reading included in the Literacy Block at all levels.
  • Utilizes PBIS strategies to support positive student behavior within the classroom.
  • Collaborative nature conducive to continual professional growth within a PLC.

Physical Requirements

This is a sedentary position, with occasional standing, and walking. The position requires the ability to remain stationary for at least 50% of the time. The position further requires the ability to constantly use equipment, such as a computer, copy machine, calculator, etc. The position further requires the ability to communicate both orally and written with district constituents. The position requires the ability to lift up to ten pounds frequently.
