Grandview Heights City School District is Hiring a Media Specialist (.5 FTE) Near Columbus, OH

Grandview Heights Schools is seeking a dedicated part-time Media Specialist (.5 FTE) for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year. The position will be at Larson Middle School and the hours will be 11:30am - 3:00pm.

JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE K-12, Media Specialist

REPORTS TO Building Principal

EMPLOYMENT STATUS Regular, Exempt, GHEA Bargaining Member

POSITION SUMMARY The Media Specialist will provide media science programming for all students. The Media Specialist will teach classes, collaborate with staff to teach skills as outlined in the Ohio Library Guidelines, and curate and maintain materials in the media center.

INSTRUCTION AND LEADERSHIP

  • Provide an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual and social-emotional development of children
  • Co-teach classes with content area teachers to support classroom projects that include literature, research, critical media skills, and multimedia platforms
  • Identify, gather, and provide staff with materials related to classroom topics and projects
  • Supervise the daily activities of the media center
  • Potential to train and supervise personnel who assist in the media center
  • Collaborate with district Media Specialists to curate the library collection, oversee the preparation of materials for circulation, and remove obsolete and unusable material from the collection
  • Perform, supervise, or arrange for the simple maintenance tasks associated with the operation of the media center
  • Differentiate media instructional materials based on student needs
  • Facilitate the use of technology, digital literacy, and multimedia tools as related to the Ohio Library Guidelines
  • Facilitate the use of multimedia platforms (Google Suite, Adobe, etc.) and the multimedia room and tools
  • Familiarity with the methods and sources for acquiring resource material
  • Observe the daily building schedule, including starting and ending times for teachers and students, and perform assigned duties

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

  • Attend all professional development days and be available for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when requested to do so and under reasonable terms
  • Serve on committees and participate in school-related activities in a professional and responsible manner
  • Complete an individual professional development plan according to procedures adopted by the district
  • Learn and implement the administrative procedures associated with the teaching assignment; for example ordering materials/books

COMMUNICATION AND COLLABORATION

  • Schedule the use of the media center
  • Publicize the services and resources of the media center to staff and students
  • Effectively and clearly report to parents regularly and positively at intervals established by the district and/or building principal
  • Use sound judgment, tact, and diplomacy when interacting with students, parents, and the community
  • Maintain the confidentiality of information that is not public domain
  • Work cooperatively with peers, administrators, and teachers to utilize the media center to its fullest potential

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in Library Science or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Appropriate State of Ohio teaching certificate/license

OTHER

  • Assist in the selection of materials and equipment used in the media center
  • Maintain appropriate personal appearance and hygiene
  • Observe all safety and health regulations of the building and district
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal, the Superintendent, or his/her designees

WORKING CONDITIONS

    • Potential exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue
    • Occasional operation of a vehicle in inclement weather; that is, being prepared to come to school on all scheduled work days, except calamity days
    • Occasional interaction with unruly children
    • Regular requirements to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see, read, and reach with hands and arms
    • Occasional requirement to lift, carry, push, and pull various items; for example, books and supplies, up to a maximum of 25 lbs
