Grandview Heights City School District is Hiring a Career and Workforce Coordinator Near Columbus, OH

Grandview Heights Schools is seeking a Career and Workforce Coordinator for the 2024-2025 school year!

Title: Career and Workforce Coordinator

Reports to: Chief Academic Officer and Student Growth and Development Officer

Employment Status: Regular, Exempt, GHEA Bargaining Member

Position Summary:

Assist students, parents, and school staff in developing our workforce department, which includes acting as a

liaison between school and business; supporting the development of necessary skills; and working with

students with special needs to ensure transition from high school to post-secondary options/ workforce.

Special Education:

  • Oversee the development, implementation, and monitoring of individualized plans for students with special needs, ensuring alignment with academic, transition, and post-secondary goals.
  • Collaborate with teachers to provide support, resources, and training related to the implementation of transition goals and accommodations within the classroom environment.
  • Facilitate meetings with parents/guardians to discuss student progress, transition planning, and available resources and support services.
  • Develop and deliver job skills training programs tailored to students' needs and abilities, including resume writing, interview preparation, and workplace etiquette.
  • Coordinate work placement opportunities for students, and be the liaison with employers to ensure appropriate accommodations and support are provided.
  • Liaison for DD Programs, Career Tech Programs, and Work Placement: Serve as a liaison between the school, students, and external programs and agencies to facilitate access to resources, services, and transition opportunities.
  • Provide guidance and support to students in exploring career options, accessing career-related resources, and developing career goals aligned with their interests and abilities.
  • Work collaboratively with post-graduates, and their families, on placement opportunities, and monitor progress toward goals within those placements.

Career Specialist:

  • SchooLinks: Utilize the SchooLinks platform to administer interest surveys, track industry credentials, and facilitate service hour documentation for students.
  • Curriculum Development: Collaborate with CAO and educators to design and implement a comprehensive K-12 Career Education Curriculum that integrates academic, industry credentials, and career pathways.
  • Career Exploration and Mentoring: Create and coordinate career exploration activities, such as job shadowing, mentoring programs, and industry-specific field trips, to expose students to diverse career opportunities.
  • Monitoring Industry Credentials: Monitor students' progress in obtaining industry credentials and collaborate with educators to develop and implement relevant curricula.
  • Communication and Networking: Communicate with staff, students, and parents to increase awareness and understanding of available pathways and resources, and establish partnerships with community organizations, businesses, and post-secondary institutions to enhance support for students.

Workforce Connections and Networking:

  • Ohio Means Jobs Coordinator: Assist students in accessing resources and opportunities through the Ohio Means Jobs program, including job postings, career assessments, and training programs.
  • Networking and Partnership Development: Attend and develop partnerships with local chambers of commerce, community organizations, and business advisory councils to create new opportunities for student engagement and workforce development.
  • Collaboration with Counselors: Work closely with school counselors to ensure that students' graduation plans incorporate college and career pathways, and provide support in navigating post-secondary options and opportunities.
  • Stay Current on Workforce Needs: Collaborate with colleges, businesses, and workforce development agencies to stay informed about current and future workforce needs and trends, and advocate to integrate relevant skills and competencies into the school curriculum.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in education, special education, or related field (Master's preferred).
  • Intervention specialist certification and experience preferred, but not required
  • Appropriate State of Ohio Transition to Work Endorsement
  • Experience working with high school students
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders including students, teachers, parents, and community partners.
  • Familiarity with Ohio educational policies and resources, including, but not limited to, Ohio Means Jobs and CCP guidelines.

Other:

  • Participate in periodic reviews of programming
  • Maintain appropriate personal appearance and hygiene
  • Observe all safety and health regulations of the building and district
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal, the Superintendent or his/her designees

Working Conditions:

  • Potential exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue
  • Occasional operation of a vehicle in inclement weather; that is, being prepared to come to school on all scheduled work days, except calamity days
  • Some interaction with unruly children
  • Occasional interaction with angry or distraught adults
  • Regular requirements to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see, read, reach with hands and arms
  • Occasional requirement to lift, carry, push, and pull various items; for example, books and supplies, up to a maximum of 25 lbs.
