Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Microbiology Lead, the Microbiology Technician performs all functions within the microbiology department of the laboratory.

Essential Functions:

• Maintains a sufficient inventory of supplies and reagents so that emergency orders are not necessary.
• Operates sections in the most cost effective manner possible to support the overall financial structure of the institution.
• Participates in the evaluation of new test methodology and instrumentation in order to keep the laboratory current with established practices.
• Covers on-call time or other shift in times of emergencies/shortages in order to maintain laboratory minimum staffing levels.
• Oversees the section quality control programs in order to maintain a viable testing environment.
• Maintains competency in the general processes within the department such as plate reading, bacterial identification and susceptibilities, specimen set-up, virology, mycology, mycobacteriology, parasitology etc.
• Verify and enter results in the computer.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:Associate's Degree Clinical Laboratory Sciences or equivalent required Over 1 year to 3 years Clinical laboratory experience preferred Licenses and Certfications:Credentialed by an agency approved by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA), i.e. ASCP, HEW, HCA, AMT, Upon hire, preferred
