Requirements

Position Title: Group Fitness Instructor
Reports to: Group Fitness Lead

Department: Wellness

Classification: Part-time, Non-exempt

Compensation: $25.00 /class (BOE)

POSITION SUMMARY:

The group fitness instructor is responsible for providing group fitness classes in a safe, enjoyable and positive environment that welcomes people of all skill and fitness levels. The group fitness instructor is under direct supervision of the Group Fitness Lead and will work in partnership to achieve group fitness goals for the Organization. This position will actively engage in relationship building with staff, members, and program participants.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Lead energizing, fun, safe and educational group classes, as directed by the supervisor, to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals
  • Cultivate relationships with members to drive member retention
  • Ensure the YMCA’s high standards of quality, safety and program impact are implemented
  • Maintains working knowledge of wellness trends to provide effective programs and support to members
  • Appropriately gauges fitness skills, abilities and levels for each class they teach
  • Observes and adjusts approach to support all participants’ capabilities, physical conditions, health and culture as appropriate to the class or modality being taught
  • Follows YMC policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations
  • Additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the direct supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least 2 years of experience in group fitness is preferred
  • A national certification in group fitness instruction (e.g., ACE, NETA, AFAA, NASM) required
  • Additional specialty certifications preferred
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to relate well to the public
  • Must be receptive to training and learning and willing to grow in the position
  • Exceptional customer service and delivery skills
  • Current certification in CPR and AED
  • Possesses and demonstrate a strong understanding of the YMCA and its purpose, mission and values

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Employee may occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds
  • Varied work hours as needed
