GovGig is Hiring a Protective Security Officer (PSO) Near Forest, MS

Contingent Upon Award

Following DHS guidelines, the armed guard team is responsible for overseeing the security of the command. This encompasses ensuring the safety and protection of personnel, property, facilities, and assets. They manage entry control points to prevent unauthorized access by individuals or vehicles, and they safeguard the facility against potential threats like sabotage, theft, rioting, or any other disruptive incidents that could impact normal operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the security and controlled access of designated areas.
  • Safeguard government property, classified materials, and personnel from unauthorized access, theft, or damage within assigned zones.
  • Promptly report and respond to any unusual or emergency situations.
  • Remain vigilant for potential security, property, or safety issues and take appropriate action as needed.
  • Monitor and regulate entry and exit points to posted, controlled, or secure areas.
  • Report and address all breaches of security and safety protocols.
  • Respond promptly to protective alarm activations or suspicious activities.
  • Maintain familiarity with all security directives and guard instructions relevant to assigned tasks.
  • Fulfill additional duties as assigned.
  • PSOs who do not have a valid firearm license/permit in their possession or cannot produce one, when requested, shall be removed from post immediately. 

Required Job Skills and Qualifications:

  • PSOs are required to possess or be willing to obtain certifications in the following areas:
    • AED (Automated External Defibrillator) Certification
    • First Aid Certification
    • State Guard Card
    • Baton Certification
    • OC Spray Certification
    • X-ray Certification.
  • Must be either a U.S. Citizen or a Lawful Permanent Resident with verifiable honorable discharge from any branch of the United States Armed Forces.
  • Minimum age requirement of 21 years.
  • Possession of a Social Security Card issued by the Social Security Administration, bearing the individual's name and Social Security number.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of armed security experience, or one (1) year of active law enforcement service with a full-service police department at the municipal, state, or federal level in the U.S., with a resignation or retirement in good standing; or a minimum of two (2) years of honorable service in any component of the U.S. Armed Forces (Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard).
  • Completion of firearms training and qualifications meeting state/federal standards.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English, including the ability to comprehend and compose coherent written reports.
  • Familiarity with securing fixed locations and/or vehicles.
  • Physically capable of maintaining a standing post for 12 hours.
  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Successful completion of a background investigation.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screening.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment physical examination.
  • Meet MRPT suitability requirements.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with a handgun.
  • Pass The PSO Basic Training Examination - fifty (50) multiple‐choice questions. 
  • PSOs shall achieve a qualifying score for the initial and each semi‐annual (i.e., every 180 days/6 months) qualification thereafter, on the weapon platform(s) required for this contract. 
  • PSOs shall complete a total of thirty‐two (32) hours of firearms training; a minimum of eight (8) hours shall be dedicated classroom training and a minimum of twenty‐four (24) hours, excluding associated down time, shall be dedicated live‐fire (familiarization) training.
  • PSOs designated for X-Ray screening responsibilities and supervisory PSOs responsible for overseeing both X-Ray and non-X-Ray screening positions must successfully complete a contractor-provided curriculum lasting a minimum of sixteen (16) hours.
  • PSO must attend the Government-Provided PSO Orientation Briefing, which can last up to eight hours, and pass the NPSOLP Examination before assuming their post, unless they have already completed the PSO Orientation Training.
