Goshen Therapeutic Services, a division of Goshen Valley Foundation, is seeking a Certified Peer Specialist.  

This is a contract position.

 The Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) will assist individuals with self-directed recovery by: 

  •  Supporting clients in articulating personal goals for recovery and wellness.
  •  Assisting clients in identifying strengths. 
  •  Assisting clients in identifying recovery and wellness goals.
  •  Assisting clients in setting objectives and identifying barriers.
  •  Supporting clients in determining recovery and wellness interventions based on clients' life goals.
  •  Recognizing and reporting progress clients make toward meeting objectives.
  •  Understanding and utilizing specific interventions necessary to support clients in meeting their recovery and wellness goals.
  •  Lead as well as teach clients how to facilitate Recovery Dialogues.
  •  Support clients in creating a Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP). 
  •  Utilize and teach problem solving techniques with individuals and groups.
  •  Teach clients techniques for identifying and combating negative self-talk. 
  •  Teach clients techniques for identifying and overcoming fears. 
  •  Support the vocational choices clients make and support them in overcoming job-related anxiety.
  •  Support clients in building social skills in the community that will enhance job acquisition and tenure.
  •  Support clients in articulating the objectives necessary to reach his or her recovery and wellness goals.
  •  Teach and role model the value of every individual's recovery experience.
  •  Support the client in obtaining decent and affordable housing of his or her choice in the most integrated, independent, and least intrusive or restrictive environment. 
  • Model effective coping techniques and self-help strategies.

Requirements

  •  Must be a Certified Peer Specialist or eligible for certification. 
  •  High School Diploma or GED Required.
  •  Bachelor’s degree preferred in Human Services or related field. (Psychology, Sociology, Counseling (religious counseling is not acceptable) Social Work, Child Development, Community Mental Health, Human Services, Criminal Justice (only with Juvenile experience/DJJ), Education (experience teaching k-12 grade) or have 5 years of human service experience.
  •  Basic computer skills, including familiarity with using the internet and Microsoft Word.
  •  Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently.
  •  Document case notes in online electronic medical record system.
  •  Ability to function as a member for a multi-disciplinary treatment team and work cooperatively with other agency employee.
  •  Ability to conduct oneself professionally and ethically with clients, co-workers and community partners
  •  Must submit a valid and official transcript showing proof of degree awarded.
  •  Must have access to a computer and telephone to contact clients and document services provided. 
  • Be of good character, and supportive of the programs, policies, and ideals of Goshen Valley Foundation.
  • Complete and pass a criminal background check (DHS OIG) and other safety screenings and drug screen.
  • Must submit a valid and official transcript showing proof of degree awarded.
  • Valid Driver’s License with good driving record, proof of auto insurance meeting required 100/300/100 liability coverage, and be insurable by GVF's auto insurance carrier.
