The following vacancy exists in Goshen Community Schools for the 2024-25 school year:
ELKHART COUNTY SPECIAL EDUCATION COOPERATIVEOccupational Therapy AssistantThe Elkhart County Special Education Cooperative (ECSEC) is made up of the Baugo, Concord, Fairfield, Goshen, Middlebury, and Wa-Nee Community Schools in North Central Indiana located 30 minutes from the University of Notre Dame. Administrative offices are located at 1216 S. Indiana Avenue, Goshen, IN 46526.POSITION PURPOSE: The Occupational Therapist’s Assistant (OTA) will be a member of the transdisciplinary team of individuals serving students in the instructional program. The role of the OTA is to work under the supervision/direction of the Occupational Therapist (OT) and to assist in the implementation of occupational therapy procedures and instructional activities in the educational environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The duties assigned to the assistant will include but not be limited to:
  • Facilitating motor development of assigned students through occupational therapy procedures
  • Facilitating activities/skill practice developed by the supervising OT in accordance with the IEP
  • Provide occupational therapy intervention in school and community settings
  • Maintain confidentiality of all information regarding the students
  • Collect and summarize student progress data as directed by the supervising OT
  • Provide general supervision to students under the direction of the supervising OT
  • Communicate programmatic information to the supervising OT and classroom teacher
  • Display flexibility to adapt to changing development of the students
  • Know and implement emergency procedures
  • Manage student records relevant to occupational therapy
  • Construct adaptations and equipment modifications to maximize student performance
  • Input Medicaid data as appropriate for billing purposes in conjunction with supervising OT
Additional Information Necessary To Clarify Job Duties
  • OTA being employed will receive in-service training on the following issues:
    • The role of OTA to the therapist and teachers
    • Characteristics of the exceptionalities of the identified students
    • Confidentiality
    • Implementing therapeutic and instructional activities
    • LRE/current local changes (i.e. collaboration, inclusion)
    • Student motivation, behavior modification
    • Communication and time management
  • OTA will be evaluated annually
  • Must be able to drive and provide one’s own transportation between sites
  • Other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • Applicant must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Possess valid board certification as a OTA in the state of Indiana
QUALIFICATIONS: Assistants will be employed based on the following qualifications and criteria. The applicant must:
  • Possess an ability to follow direction
  • Possess an ability to adapt and be flexible to formats within the educational procedure (community-based instruction and inclusive teaching models)
  • Be prompt and assertive
  • Demonstrate an ability to organize
  • Demonstrate the ability to cooperate with administration and staff
  • Demonstrate a willingness to improve
  • Be able to perform job duties in compliance with the Indiana OT Laws and Regulations
  • Be able to accept constructive criticism
  • Be able to establish rapport with staff, children and parents; ability to maintain discipline
  • Possess tact, courtesy, and good judgment
  • Dress appropriately in accordance with building policies/expectations
  • Be eligible to work in the United States
  • Be in good occupational health
  • Wear footwear the provides protection and support in the event a staff member may need to move quickly; i.e.: no open toe shoes
  • Demonstrate computer skills including keeping student records, inventory, and data entry
HOURS: School year - 184 days per year; 40 hours per week; 7:30am to 3:30pm
SALARY: Rate is dependent upon education and experience. (Schedule #25-3)
