Goshen College is Hiring a Head Athletic Trainer Near Goshen, IN

Job Summary:

The primary responsibilities are to provide athletic training services to all student-
athletes engaged in intercollegiate athletics. Athletic trainer responsibilities include but
are not limited to: injury prevention and health promotion, clinical examination and
diagnosis, acute and emergency care, therapeutic interventions, conditioning and
reconditioning, and health care administration, hiring and supervising student staff,
budget management, practice and game coverage, GC Sports medicine practicum
instructor, and professional development.

This is a 10-month position (August – May) with an annual salary of $45,565.

Essential Functions:

  • Oversee the sports medicine staff including the assistant athletic trainer, the yoga instructor, the strength and conditioning coach, and work study students.
  • Onsite care and management of injuries and illnesses including: prevention, evaluation, management and rehabilitation.
  • Assess risk of injury, perform ergonomic evaluation and coaching, self-care implementation and overall wellness promotion.
  • Electronic documentation of patient encounters.
  • Maintain athletic training facilities for the treatment of student-athletes.
  • Makes appropriate physician’s referrals and appointments
  • Coordinate and implement injury prevention programs and customized preventative strategies and programs to each patient.
  • Minimize risk of injury through awareness, education and prevention strategies.
  • Communicate with physicians and coaching staff regarding the injury status of athletes.
  • Carry out medical care for assigned student-athletes per the sports medicine standard operating procedures.
  • Responsible for administrative duties such as record keeping, scheduling of hours, inventory, budget management, and communication with constituents.
  • Serve as liaison for athletics to Director of Health and Wellness
  • Serve as the course instructor for Sports Practicum.

Option: Potential for teaching at the college level.

Education and/or Experience:

Master’s degree in athletic training is preferred, along with at least three years of
experience is required.

Skills Required:

  • Highly organized with the ability to oversee entire athletic training program
  • Strong oral and written communication skills for frequent and regular contact with student-athletes, coaches, and team physicians/medical providers.
  • Ability to work easily with both student-athletes and coaches of varying ages and personalities.
  • Ability to be a team player.
  • Self-motivation and self-direction
