Gordon Cooper Technology Center is Hiring a Health Careers Certification Instructor Near Shawnee, OK

Gordon Cooper Technology Center is a public career and technology education center located in Shawnee, Okla., at the intersection of Interstate 40 and State Highway 18. It is part of the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education system. The school is named for the astronaut Gordon Cooper, an American aeronautical engineer, test pilot, and one of the seven original Mercury astronauts, the first manned space program of the United States. Cooper piloted the longest and final Mercury spaceflight in 1963. He was the first American to sleep in space during that 34-hour mission and was the last American to be launched alone into space. In 1965, Cooper flew as command pilot of Gemini 5.

GCTC serves around 1,000 full-time students and has over 17,000 short-term enrollments annually. Since opening in 1969, GCTC has gained a reputation for excellence, and is viewed as one of the nation's premier educational and training institutions. Gordon Cooper has been recognized as a Gold Star school every year since 2003.

Position Summary: Responsible for the instruction, operation and program development of the Health Careers Certification Program. Will coordinate student’s on-the-job training/clinical and will serve as program’s HOSA advisor.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist in defining short and long-range educational needs.
  • Teaching according to the educational needs, abilities, and achievement of the individual students and groups of students.
  • Uphold the policies and procedures of the Board of Education. Attend all faculty/staff meetings and other school meetings and functions as required.
  • Prepare and submit reports and other documents as required by the Board of Education, and the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education.
  • Participate in the team management process and support the organizational management

philosophy of the district.

  • Maintain follow-up records on former students.
  • Responsible for proper maintenance of equipment used in classroom.
  • Develop curriculum and instructional materials utilizing input from representation of business and industrial groups.
  • Validate specific occupations for which the student should be trained for gainful employment.
  • Develop a curriculum alignment for program offering illustrating what subject matter should be taught with appropriate hours for both theory and shop/laboratory.
  • Develop course syllabuses for each course that is to be taught within the curriculum alignment.
  • Develop an occupational/course matrix that illustrates what courses a student would need to take based upon the occupation the student was studying.
  • Serve as the programs HOSA advisor and clinical instructor.
  • Maintain a line of communication and work cooperatively with instructors, administration and staff. Maintain professionalism through participation in professional activities.
  • Develop and maintain contacts with community businesses for the purpose of advisory recommendations and student placement.
  • Identify and assist with placing students on an on-the-job training program.

Required Education and Experience:

  • RN License Bachelor’s Degree
  • Eligible for Oklahoma State Department of Education Standard Certification in Health Occupation Education
  • Must hold or be eligible for a Secondary Certification in Biological Sciences (Biology I and II, Botany, Zoology, Anatomy/Physiology, Applied Biology, General Sciences)
  • Three years successful teaching in a related area and/or three years of clinical experience within the last five years in a related industrial/ business setting.

This position is a 196-day (10-month) exempt role with an annual salary ranging from $61,887 to $85,348, dependent on education and experience, within the specified salary scale.
