Goodwill Industries of the Valleys is Hiring a Facility Maintenance Specialist/Master Electrician Near Radford, VA

Base Pay: Hourly (based on experience)

Employee Type: Full-time Nonproduction

Additional locations: Danville, Madison Heights, Roanoke and Rocky Mount

Position Overview:

The Maintenance Specialist, with a focus on electrical expertise, plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and functionality of Goodwill-owned and leased facilities. Under the supervision of the Facilities and Fleet Manager or designee, this position is responsible for maintaining and repairing various systems and equipment, with a particular emphasis on electrical systems.A Current Virginia Master Electrician Certification is required for this role.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide exemplary customer service to employees, clients, visitors, and vendors.
  • Schedule and execute general maintenance and repairs for designated facilities, systems, or equipment.
  • Source quotes for facility repair and maintenance projects as requested.
  • Supervise and monitor the work of local subcontractors, as directed.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance and mechanical emergencies.
  • Perform repair and maintenance on major systems and equipment, particularly focusing on electrical systems, following proper electrical code.
  • Act as the organization's representative for current and proposed electrical systems, repairs, and upgrades with external vendors.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports, promptly responding to maintenance requests and closing out completed tasks.
  • Adhere to federal, state, and local regulations relevant to non-profit organizations as they apply to day-to-day operations.
  • Comply with agency safety policies and procedures.
  • Attend relevant conferences, seminars, and meetings to enhance knowledge and personal growth as directed.
  • Willingness to work additional hours, if necessary, to complete tasks as assigned or requested.
  • In the absence of the Facilities Manager, supervise and monitor the work of maintenance technicians through assigning Landport request and scheduling assignments.
  • Must be proficient with email and maintenance applications.
  • Conducting regular surveillance of facilities to identify potential safety hazards and maintenance needs to ensure a safe environment for our team members, clients, and visitors.
  • Utilize a company-provided van for daytime travel to various locations within our service area as services are needed, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability to fulfill job responsibilities effectively.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of five years of facility maintenance experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of building maintenance and repair practices, with a strong emphasis on electrical systems. Considerable knowledge of plumbing systems is also required.
  • Current Virginia Master Electrician Certification - must maintain throughout employment.
  • Ability to develop and adhere to schedules, manage multiple projects concurrently, and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Proficiency in interpreting documents, drafting reports and correspondence, and speaking effectively before groups.
  • Strong mathematical skills and ability to apply concepts to practical solutions.
  • Problem-solving abilities and adaptability to varied situations.
  • Valid driver's license, proof of insurance, and acceptable motor vehicle record as per Goodwill guidelines.
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.

Training and Experience:

  • Successful completion of Goodwill training programs within the required period upon employment, covering various areas including orientation, compliance, emergency preparedness, and safety procedures.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach, climb, stoop, kneel, crawl, and hear effectively.
  • Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and adjustment ability.
  • Capability to lift and/or move over 50 pounds.
  • Occasional exposure to wet and humid conditions, outdoor weather extremes, moving mechanical parts, high places, fumes, airborne particles, and occasional risk of electrical shock.
  • Comfortable and experienced working at heights using ladders and lifts.
