Qualifications

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identify areas of risk and non-compliance to the business and make recommendations to neutralize or mitigate them to senior management. Ensure risks are considered in general business changes and expansions.Design and implement programs, policies (including investigation and prosecution), and procedures to address safety, security, retail losses, and other business risks. Develops programs for safeguarding associates, customers, and other company assets; develops strategies to reduce exposure to losses.
  • Adhere to, and ensure adherence to, all Loss Prevention and inventory control and compliance, risk management, and ethics policies and procedures. Safeguard donations and all Goodwill property and resources; secure from harm, theft, accidental loss, or disposal. Promptly investigate or participate in investigations for all reported incidents. Initiates, conducts and manages internal investigations involving theft, fraud, etc.
  • Utilize Loss Prevention Audit Tools to analyze financial reports and inventory systems data to ensure operational integrity, identify exception trends, minimize exposure and identify training, development and loss prevention opportunities within the branch, hub and region.
  • Maintain logs, certifications and documents required by law and Standard Operating Procedures to: Monitor Physical Security, Security Systems, Cash, POS, Inventory Controls, Theft and Fraud; Conduct Internal Investigations (Surveillance, Test Shops, POS Reporting, Tips Reward Program, Train Management); Manage Incident Notification Procedures
  • Use appropriate tools to conduct effective investigations and thwart opportunities for loss:

Tools CCTV/Surveillance/Integrity Shops

POS Exception Reporting/Data Mining

Access and Inventory Controls

Tip Rewards

Measuring Compliance to Policies Begin Internal Audit Strategy

Metrics (POS, Productivity, Donations, Inventory, Sales, Flags, Etc.)

Continue to Assess Security Systems Partner with IT - Intrusion alarms/CCTV/Access Control, Network Integration.

6. Maintain a collaborative relationship with Operations and Human Resources to uphold company policies

7. Execute periodic site visits to perform internal and external threat assessments, training, and investigations.

8. Maintain professional liaison with all local law enforcement officials to ensure appropriate coordination of investigations and/or prosecutions; Represent the company in court proceedings in a professional manner.

9. Manage Risk Management staff. Oversee daily activities related to safety, security, loss prevention, OSHA reporting, and tracks compliance with various risk programs.

10. Monitor the effectiveness of General Liability and Workers Compensation insurance coverage to identify gaps in coverage and determine the cost in comparison to the received benefit of proposed solutions. Work with external and internal loss consultants to monitor risk, formulate programs to reduce risk, schedule and track audits, and oversees the implementation of the plans. Track costs, benchmark results, and coordinate efforts with insurance companies and insurance broker to ensure coverage is appropriate and costs are controlled. Manage the treatment and resolution of claims.

11. Partner with legal resources to strategize responses to claims in litigation. Coordinate availability of workforce members for deposition and gathers information to respond to interrogations. Identify improvements in equipment, procedures, or training that might prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.

12. Create, conduct, and/or coordinate Risk Management training and awareness programs to positively impact the company's profitability goals and objectives.

13. Monitor and track compliance with various government risk programs, such as CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission), DOT (Department of Transportation) etc., and develop ways to eliminate gaps between the required standards and Goodwill’s performance or procedures.

14. Identify opportunities for risk management improvements by researching trends (internal and external), loss runs, best practices, seminars and conferences, discussions with internal management and workforce members, and site visits. Research remedies, make recommendations, and develop appropriate remedies to improve results.

15. Track Ethics Hotline phone calls and Internet submissions and distributes to appropriate personnel. Track resolutions and provides reports to Executive Team.

16. Prepare and deliver timely performance appraisals for direct reports, and ensure performance appraisals for assigned work units are completed on time and in a quality manner. Coordinate with Human Resources to administer rewards and recognition, promotions, transfers, disciplinary actions, or terminations in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.

17. Develop and maintain personal and team training development by ensuring participation in required training opportunities; Monitor and address performance issues on a timely basis.

18. Promptly investigate or participate in investigations for all reported incidents. Maintain harmonious working relations between team members. Ensure team member complaints are promptly addressed, and follow through to resolution.

19. Responsible for providing excellent customer service by greeting, assisting, and responding to questions and/or concerns in a positive, professional, and friendly manner.

20. To accommodate business needs and management objectives other duties may be assigned by management.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Risk Management, Business, Finance, Criminal Justice or related field and completion of professional development investigative courses such as Wicklander/Zulawski, Reid, SCAN; Loss Prevention Certification (LPC) preferred
  • Master’s Degree in Risk Management, Business, Finance, Criminal Justice or related field preferred.
  • 5 7 years’ progressive experience in risk management within retail, distribution, educational, or service environments, with an emphasis on controlling and reducing exposures and expenses through proactive risk management strategies. Requires high level of computer literacy, including expertise in Excel, Outlook and Word; experience desired.
  • Requires strong ability to utilize financial reports and data analysis to identify and resolve internal losses; experience using Loss Prevention/Operational Audits to verify compliance with current policies preferred; experience using CCTV investigative techniques desired.
  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively, motivate others, and act as a change agent.
  • Demonstrates strong team management, delegation, issue resolution, and coaching and training skills.
  • Demonstrates the ability to interact with the public and coworkers in a friendly, enthusiastic and outgoing manner.
