Description

SUMMARY: The Donation Coordinator position oversees community operations and the donation acquisition vehicle to aggressively expand the Goodwill donated goods donor base / partners and increase donated goods donations. This position is responsible for researching and cultivating relationships with corporate donors and community agencies for the solicitation of in-kind donations of goods. They are responsible for promoting brand awareness in their community and developing relationships with and inspiring local organizations to partner with Goodwill.

REPORTS TO: Director of Donated Goods Retail (Director of DGR)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Consistently arrives at work and on time; notifies the Director of DGR of absence in advance.
  2. Demonstrates a professional, presentable appearance, including adherence to dress code and positive attitude.
  3. Is knowledgeable of, and utilizes, PPE as required for the position and the job duties.
  4. Is knowledgeable of, and adheres to, the DGR Purpose Statement, DGR Guiding Principles and Goodwill Values.
  5. Provides excellent customer service to all customers (internal and external); answers all emails and phone calls within 24 business hours.
  6. Safeguards company property (including donated goods) and employees. Reports any incident of accident, theft, fraud, waste or unauthorized possession of company property to the of DGR the same day as the incident.
  7. Implements and manages all donation acquisition programs and services including but not limited to: residential and corporate pick-ups, estate services, donation drives, donation bins, and long-term giving relationships.
  8. Establishes and cultivates partnerships in the community for donation drives, with a focus on corporations, schools, colleges & universities, youth groups, faith communities, and neighborhood associations.
  9. Contacts prospective business donors to explain Goodwill's Commercial Business Program and solicit donated merchandise for Goodwill.
  10. Develop and leverage relationships with Good Samaritan Partners.
  11. Routinely solicits donations and maintains relationships with donors through phone calls and face-to-face meetings.
  12. Maintain a daily record of all calls and outreach activity and provide a weekly report on said activity to the Director of Retail.
  13. Maintains records and reports on a weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly basis.
  14. Track, analyze, and report program results to inform strategic planning and new initiatives to drive an increase in goods donations, while ensuring current program development and growth.
  15. Track results of events to determine what works/doesn't work for future events.
  16. Analyze giving history to ensure recognition for large donors, regular donors, and new donors.
  17. Communicates Goodwill’s mission and the donation program in meetings or small public speaking engagements.
  18. Build brand/donor awareness through the sourcing, planning, and execution of donation drives.
  19. Educates customers about Goodwill's mission and purpose, including job training, job placement and contracting services. Advises Goodwill department heads regarding potentially beneficial contacts.
  20. Participates in special events and community outreach booths coordinated by workforce development.
  21. Works with the Director of Retail and the Chief of Retail to determine a plan for increasing donations which may include locating future potential ADC sites as well as other donation acquisition strategies.
  22. Attends all training sessions as required by the Agency.
  23. Performs other duties as assigned that would lead to successful operation of department, team and/or mission; including performing work of subordinates as needed.

While performing the duties of this job, an employee is regularly required to talk and/or hear. This position is regularly active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, and crouching. An employee will also frequently use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms. An employee is occasionally required to climb up to 14-foot height or balance. An employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move 50 pounds and more. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee will regularly be required to sit. An employee will frequently be required to read written and electronic documents and product labels. Frequent need to walk on tile/concrete floor. Occasionally need to work on uneven surfaces.

This job regularly operates in varied environments which will include warehouse, retail, public and office settings. Work environments will include indoor and outdoor locations with potential weather extremes. This role routinely operates office equipment. While performing the duties of this job, an employee is occasionally exposed to hazardous machinery (compactor, baler, walk-behind, forklifts), solvents (cleaners, detergents), radiation (Microwave in break room), continuously exposed to dust and frequently exposed to temperature fluctuations. Occasionally exposed to blood and air borne pathogens and physically aggressive customers. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate with occasional loud noise. Mostly regular hours but will need to adjust work schedule to the needs of the business, including some nights, weekends, and holidays. Regular need to travel across assigned region.

Qualifications


QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree from an accredited college/university in related field preferred, or equivalent experience as noted below:

  • With a Bachelor's or Associate’s degree: Minimum of three (3) years of recent direct sales and marketing experience; non-profit experience preferred; experience with project management preferred.
  • Without a Bachelor's or Associate’s degree: Minimum of six (6) years of recent direct sales and marketing experience; non-profit experience preferred; experience with project management preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Possess a privately owned vehicle and valid license or must be able to access locations, possibly at a moment’s notice that may not be accessible by public transportation.

Screenings: A background screening, pre-employment drug test, and driving record check will be completed as a condition of employment.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Proven history of utilizing scheduling platforms, spreadsheets, donor databases.
  • Basic computer skills with required knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Fast and efficient with modern communication vehicles (email/text).
  • Ability to adapt and lead within an ever-changing environment.
  • Ability to analyze data, observe behaviors, solicit feedback, and in turn, identify practices and behaviors necessary for improvement in business results.
  • Proven ability to drive sales.
  • Strong independent work skills, personal organization, and drive.
  • Strong conflict management skills.
  • Ability and desire to provide excellent customer service.
  • Good research, planning, analytical, and organizational skills and strong follow-through.
  • Capable of building and sustaining relationships with a variety of individuals and businesses.
  • Be familiar with the donated goods operation of Goodwill and be an enthusiastic ambassador for Goodwill in the community.
  • Must be an active member of (or join) at least 2 community-based service organizations.
  • Experience negotiating sales and commitments.
  • Comfortable with presenting and public speaking.
  • Must have a knowledge of and commitment to the mission, programs and goals of Goodwill Industries.
