Goodwill Industries of Kentucky is hiring a Life Coach support an unprecedented educational initiative that will address critical workforce challenges in the state’s largest city Life Coaches are integral staff members in the Excel Center. Their primary role is to promote continued student engagement in the Excel Center and to serve as a student advocate. Each life coach is responsible for a caseload of students, typically ranging from 65-80 students. To support student learning and productivity, life coaches build relationships with students and provide resources to remove barriers from their educational progress. Effective life coaches understand how to triage their caseloads by managing their core responsibilities while also being responsive to student crises as they arise. The school – better known as an Excel Center – provides a tuition free opportunity for Kentuckians 18 years of age and older who have dropped out of high school to earn a diploma in a unique environment that caters to the life demands they now face as adults. To help its adult students succeed in earning their diplomas, the Excel Center features: flexible 8-week class schedules, free on-site childcare, transportation assistance, industry-recognized certification options, and career coaches who help graduates transition into college or meaningful careers.

Essential Duties and Tasks:

  • The core responsibilities of Coaches fall under the following four primary umbrellas: building relationships, tracking student data, guiding students in problem-solving and overcoming obstacles, and setting and maintaining a positive school culture.
  • Provide support (for example, tutoring and substituting), works closely, and maintains open communication with leadership, staff, and students to support student success.
  • Attend all team and professional development meetings.
  • Become part of a reliable alliance to ensure student engagement.
  • Manage and monitor students’ information to ensure academic progress. Develop class schedule and directs students on a path that leads to graduation and postsecondary success.
  • Initiate and maintain contact with key community partners (community agencies, educational institutions, and employers) to enhance the menu of support services provided to students.
  • Manage life coaches, maintain knowledge of all coaching areas, and Plan and/or conduct life coach professional development.
  • Enforce school expectations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Must have a minimum of two (2) years social work, counseling, advising, academic guidance, or related field.
  • Experience working with high school age students in a nontraditional setting and/or in adult education setting highly preferred.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish highly preferred.
  • Must have proficient verbal and written skills.
  • Must be detailed oriented with problem-solving skills and ability to analyze data for informed decision making.
  • Must be a highly motivated self-starter with strong planning and organizing skills, ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, frequently changing environment in a positive way.

Physical Demands:

  • This job may have physical requirements that are considered sedentary work. Sedentary work involves sitting for long periods of time; occasional bending, squatting, kneeling, stooping; good finger dexterity and feeling; frequent repetitive motions; talking, hearing, and visual acuity and occasional lifting to 15 pounds.
  • Travel to other locations beyond the assigned work location is occasionally required.
