Goodwill Industries Michiana is Hiring a Career Center Assistant Tier 1- Gary - FT Near Gary, IN

Job ObjectiveThe role of the Career Center Assistant is to provide needed support to clients visiting the Center and to the Career Center Manager. The Career Center Manager will ensure that appropriate training and indoctrination takes place and will also be available for support and guidance on a daily basis. Specific individuals will be designated to assist with fingerprinting. Only individuals approved and trained can assist with this function. This position reports to the Career Center manager who evaluates performance annually.
Essential Job Functions
  • Knows and understands the Goodwill Mission: Strengthen communities by empowering individuals and families through education, training and job placement.
  • Greet clients entering the Career Center and make them feel welcome.
  • Ensure the Career Center is properly prepared and ready for operations each morning.
  • Give a brief tour and inform clients of the resources available at the Career Center.
  • Hand out resource materials so that clients will have access to these materials from home.
  • Give Career Services business cards on first visit so the client is aware of business hours and has full contact information for the Career Center.
  • Ensure that privacy and confidentiality are maintained at all times.
  • Ensure that clients know to sign in on the sign in sheet to track daily activities.
  • Have new clients complete the annual/new customer demographics sheet for tracking purposes when appropriate.
  • Assists in organization and planning of events held at the Career Center.
  • Assists in organizing job leads and posting them in Career Center for public use.
  • Assists in calling existing clients to check on job search, keeping track of client job placements throughout the week.
  • Answer the phone and take accurate messages as needed if the Career Center Manager is not available.
  • Assist Career Center Manager with completing and sending weekly trackers.
  • Assist Career Center Manager with creating and updating resumes for clients, when needed. Oversees Career Center daily operations when Manager is out of office.
  • Assist with updating client records and activities on Google Forms.
  • Provide resources and guidance to clients seeking assistance with resumes, job search techniques, using the computer and other requested services.
  • Communicate client suggestions and ideas to the Career Center Manager.
  • May be assigned office or clerical duties as needed to ensure that client needs are met in an efficient manner and appropriate monitoring is done.
  • Provide limited coverage the Career Center Manager while on lunch break or tending to additional Goodwill business.
  • Inform the Career Center Manager if any unusual or problematic situations arise.
  • Scan and file monthly data.
  • Assist with planned workshops as needed.
  • Complete Community Service Volunteer intakes.
  • Seek and complete additional training to enhance skills related to position and job description. i.e., in the past, Assistants have been encouraged to complete and earn North Star and Grow with Google Certificates.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment.
  • If hired to assist with fingerprinting, the following applies:
    • Ensure that individuals are greeted quickly and professionally.
    • Ensure that privacy and confidentiality are maintained at all times. Moved to essential job functions
    • Follow the process approved by IndentoGO for processing of fingerprints.
Required Skills/Abilities
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Good organizational skills, both physical and digital.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Ability to be detailed oriented.
  • Ability to handle a large amount of sensitive information in a confidential manner.
  • Customer service skills and/or equivalent experience.
  • Proper telephone etiquette.
  • Basic computer literacy skills.
