JOB SUMMARY

Assist the Regional Transportation Manager in maintaining effective daily operations of the Transportation and ADC Departments. Lead the donor services and transportation functions, ensuring scheduling and safe efficient operations according to Goodwill Central Coast procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Assist Regional Transportation Manager as assigned.

Track Company vehicles’ maintenance schedules; keep manager informed of forth-coming maintenance check-ups.

Create Schedule for ADC and Transportation staff and upload to appropriate platform as required. Ensure donation and transportation staff are scheduled appropriately to meet donation center pick-up and delivery needs.

Ensure ADC and Transportation daily operations are being performed to established standards.

Ensure a safe work environment through training staff in safe work practices, communicating periodic safety information, and performing safety inspections, including Vehicle Operational Data (VOD reports).

Take trailer percentage reporting level calls from attendants, act as liaison between attendants and transportation staff to ensure proper trailer rotation.

Assist in ensuring the completion of tickets, store deliveries, ADC servicing, and trailer switching are completed by Transportation staff.

Ensure timely completion of truck accident investigations/reports.

Send VOD reports, inspection reports and other required documentation electronically and/or physically to Regional Transportation Manager.

Complete and submit required paperwork to ensure proper administration of established systems. Process payroll; maintain confidentiality in this and all personnel-related functions and procedures.

Assist in the coordination of special collection drives, including establishing and communicating pickup areas and times.

Collect data reflective of donations, including, but not limited to: Donor count, house call effective rate, miles driven, and fuel consumption. Generate related data reports.

Assist in routing of scheduled home and commercial donation pickups. Monitor pickups, ensuring transportation staff meet defined pickup schedule and ensuring that completed collections are reported per defined procedures.

Support Regional Transportation Manager in the selection, promotion, demotion, discipline/termination, training (including safety), performance appraisal and salary change recommendations for staff, according to Company policy.

Instruct driver trainees in operational procedures; provide work direction to trainees when on the road.

Communicate company policies, procedures and practices to donors, store personnel and donation station attendants as needed and work with these people to solve issues as appropriate.

Secondary Duties

While acting as a lead, serve as an attendant or driver if sufficient staff is not available.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications


JOB SPECIFICATIONS

EDUCATION REQUIRED: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQ’D: Valid California Class C driver’s license.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Two years experience in donated goods or transportation, including one year in a lead capacity, or equivalent.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

Familiarity with material handling, sorting/ packing/stacking techniques.

Familiarity with safety rules and procedures, including proper lifting procedures.

Familiarity with operational procedures including donation acceptance criteria (this may be learned on-the-job).

Familiarity with Goodwill Central Coast’s mission, general Company policies and procedures (this may be learned on-the-job).

EQUIPMENT USED:

Typical donation center/warehouse equipment, typical office equipment; vehicles.

SKILLS/APTITUDES/TEMPERAMENTS:

Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing. Ability to communicate in basic Spanish preferred.

Ability to organize and utilize time effectively despite interruptions.

Ability to lead employees in the operational procedures and explain company policies as they relate to the job.

Ability to deal with people beyond giving or receiving instructions. Ability to understand other’s feelings and personal viewpoints and adapt to the situation.

Ability to drive a vehicle in the transaction of Company business. This requires a good driving record, and may require the ability to provide evidence of personal vehicle liability insurance.

Ability to understand and follow organizational/packing/stacking procedures within a donation trailer.

Ability to coordinate eye/hand/foot movement to safely maneuver up/down steps and lift/stack donations.

Ability to reason, make generalizations, evaluations and decisions based on both sensory/judgmental and measurable/verifiable criteria.

Ability to adhere to safe work practices as documented in Company safety policies; ability to report safety hazards/accidents promptly to supervisor or safety committee member.

Ability to demonstrate satisfactory attendance, as outlined in Company policy.

EMOTIONAL EFFORT:

The job requires moderate to high emotional effort with occasional short deadlines requiring some overtime. The work environment is occasionally hectic with some periods of high activity/demand.

JOB SETTING

The job is frequently performed inside and outside a trailer, warehouse, dock area, and inside the cab of a truck. There is exposure to weather, noise from traffic, dust/dirt, other airborne particles, odors and vehicle exhaust. The ground around the trailer may be uneven. The trailer is approximately 16 up from the ground and requires climbing steps. Work may also take place in a fixed donation site, or within a retail store. Work is completed independently and in cooperation with department staff, management and company employees. There is frequent contact with the public. The job is occasionally performed in an enclosed, climatically-controlled office building

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The job requires frequent lifting of items weighing up to 25 lbs, with regular lifting of items weighing up to 50 lbs. Large or heavier items (51 lbs. or more) will be moved either with assistance from another person or by using proper material handling equipment.

Normal or corrected talking, hearing, and seeing abilities are sufficient to perform required tasks. Mobility required to walk up/down ramps, climb in/out of trucks and walk on uneven ground.
