The Legal Department is looking for an experienced consumer credit attorney to be part of the team tasked with developing the firms consumer and business lending capabilities. This position offers opportunity to work closely with the business teams and colleagues throughout the firms legal, compliance, marketing, credit, operations and technology functions to develop and maintain servicing, and collections strategies and communications.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal advice on development of new consumer lending and payment products
  • Conduct comprehensive research of federal, state and local laws relating to consumer lending and protection (e.g. UDAAP, Reg. Z, Reg. E)
  • Participate as a collaborative member on cross-functional teams working to build more options for consumers in the revolving (credit card) and installment loan space
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on banking laws and regulations applicable to consumer lending and protection.
  • Review consumer complaints with legal and regulatory impact and assist in developing responses
  • Provide day-to-day legal support to various operational teams maintaining credit card and installment loan products.
  • Monitor state and federal consumer finance developments
  • Assist in the development and management of regulatory disclosures
  • Opportunity to work closely with lawyers from other divisions regarding consumer business finance transactions

Basic Qualifications

  • Knowledge of and direct experience with federal, state and local consumer finance laws and regulations, including but not limited to UDAAP, ECOA & Reg. B, EFTA & Reg. E, TILA & Reg. Z
  • Experience drafting consumer communications, disclosures and changes in terms
  • Ability to review procedures, training, and call scripts for compliance with banking/lending laws and regulations
  • Knowledge of consent orders relating to credit cards and other consumer loans, along with ability to formulate responses to same
  • 5 years of relevant experience required in a leading law firm or financial institution
  • Team player with inherent commercial judgment and strong analytical skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational / project management skills
  • Superb oral and written communications skills
  • High level of initiative, integrity, and organization
