Position Overview: The Kickapoo Tribe in Kansas seeks a full-time Project Director to develop a comprehensive system of supports for adolescents at risk of suicide, substance abuse, and mental illness. The Project Director will ensure that project goals and objectives of the Kickapoo Native Connections grant are met. The Project Director will work in partnership with the University of Kansas Center for Public Partnerships on the project evaluation. This position will organize, plan, and collaborate with project partners and connect with other community-based organizations supporting the well-being of adolescent members of the Kickapoo Tribe.
Job Description: Provides oversight of all Kickapoo Native Connections activities:
Promote the well-being of youth and adolescents in the Kickapoo community
In partnership with the Center for Public Partnerships, conduct a needs assessment of holistic youth well-being for the tribal community
Develop, implement, and maintain a strategic plan, based on the needs assessment results, to address the needs of youth at risk for suicide, substance abuse, and mental illness
Ensure that programs and services are delivered in a way that is consistent with tribal customs and values
Coordinate with existing services to support youth and families with information and resources to address their needs
Deliver evidence-based prevention services as appropriate, based on training and qualifications
Assure provisions of the evidence-based practices are being maintained
Work closely with tribal partners to address policy barriers to youth well-being
Convene and facilitate Kickapoo youth to provide leadership and decision-making related to youth-focused prevention strategies
Collect and report data on Kickapoo Native Connections activities, in partnership with the KU Center for Public Partnerships
Participate in required monthly calls with Federal Funding Agency
Establish relationship with multiple organizations and guide interagency/interdepartmental collaborations with various community-based organizations and public health services
Minimum requirements: Bachelor degree and/or Master degree (preferred) in health education, public health, nursing, social work or related field. At least 2 years of experience coordinating youth development programs. Experience must include working knowledge of youth development, suicide prevention, substance abuse prevention, and/or mental health promotion, and the community resources available to address these issues. Experience should include community organizing, program planning, development, and implementation.
