The Claims Consultant will handle and analyze primary General Liability, Excess GL and Excess Commercial Auto claims and/or Attorney Professional Liability Claims from inception to conclusion, reviewing claims to determine nature of loss, coverage provided, and scope of claim, make recommendations regarding settlement/disposition of claims and negotiate to conclusion. This position involves litigated and non-litigated matters. The position also ensures ongoing adjudication of claims within the Company standards, industry best practices and specific client service requirements.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

• Analyze and process General Liability, Excess GL and Excess Commercial Auto bodily injury and property damage claims and/or Professional Liability Claims by investigating and gathering information to determine the exposure on the claim; ensure proactive claims handling aimed at the prompt and cost-effective resolution of claims through well-developed action plans.
• Identify and evaluate coverage issues; prepare comprehensive coverage letters with supervisory review and analysis; retain and provide direction to coverage counsel when necessary.
• Assess liability and resolve claim within established evaluation. Maintain diaries and complete tasks within required timeframes as set forth by department and governmental guidelines; ensure claim files are timely and properly documented with clear and concise analysis on coverage, damages, reserves, and liability including an action plan for resolution. Process and pay invoices in a timely manner.
• Coordinate vendor referrals for additional investigation and/or litigation management. Calculate and assign timely and appropriate reserves; monitor reserve accuracy throughout the life of the claim.
• Refer case as appropriate to supervisor and management.
• Attend arbitrations, mediations, settlement conference and trials.
• Successfully complete required State licensing examinations and continuing education requirements.

Education/Training & Experience:

• Bachelors Degree or JD preferred or 5 years of claims handling experience required.
• Strong decision-making ability and negotiation skills.
• Claim designations such as AIC, CPCU or AINS preferred but not necessary. Company sponsored Institutes’ training available to all employees.
• Claim adjuster licenses required (Company will assist in obtaining and compensate costs for required licensing).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, and Share Point).
• Proficient writing skills.
• Good interpersonal communication skills.
