Goldbelt Incorporated is an urban, Alaska Native, for-profit corporation with offices in Juneau, Alaska, and Herndon, Virginia. Its primary purpose is to manage assets and conduct business for the benefit of over 4,000 Alaska Native shareholders.

Summary

The Equipment Operator, under the supervision of the Lands Manager, will be responsible for roadway maintenance including clearing brush, mulching trees, and using a chain saw as needed to down larger trees. The Equipment Operator has a strong work ethic and is willing and able to work unsupervised in a remote location.

Essential Job Functions

  • Perform road maintenance for road system.
  • Performs a variety of road maintenance tasks by performing various manual labor assignments, such as, performing tree removal by mulching trees, trimming trees, and removing debris.
  • Utilize a chain saw for tree and brush removal.
  • Operates and assists with servicing heavy equipment in the maintenance and repair of roads.
  • Utilizes equipment such as an excavator and backhoe.
  • Ensuring equipment is properly positioned before turning it on and off or loading and unloading it.
  • Safely perform duties which require physical strength and agility, medium to heavy lifting, walking, and standing on uneven terrain, and periodic exposure to extreme weather conditions.
  • Communicates and acts in a professional manner with the public, co-workers, and work contacts.
  • Other duties as required.

Necessary Skills and knowledge

  • Experience with operating and servicing of heavy equipment utilized in the removing roadside foliage.
  • Self-motivated and self-reliant.
  • Ability to see projects through to completion.
  • Willing to continually be on the lookout for problems and be ready to respond effectively.
  • Must be willing to travel by boat or small aircraft in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Must be capable of working in a remote location. 

Minimum qualifications

  • Must possess a High School Diploma or equivalent. 
  • Must be at least 21 years of age at time of appointment. 
  • Minimum one (1) year experience operating heavy equipment.
  • Must possess a valid, unrestricted driver’s license and be insurable. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of construction and/or maintenance experience in remote work sites preferred.
  • Current CPR Certification and First Aid training.
  • Drug testing may be required.
