Overview

SUMMARY:
Goldbelt Transportation is seeking a Deckhand (Full-Time). Assists with vessel operations including maintenance and application of emergency procedures for the safety of the vessel and its passengers.
Qualifications
NECESSARY SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Knowledge of and ability to apply emergency and fire regulations, emergency procedures, emergency equipment, and systems applicable to vessel operation.
- Knowledge of proper vessel handling and docking.
- Basic knowledge of vessel maintenance.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with other employees.
- Ability to work directly with the public, providing information and assistance on a daily basis.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- AND One (1) to two (2) years of maritime industry experience.
- Current CPR and first aid certificates
- Drug testing required
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Previous experience on a passenger vessel.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Vessel with a passenger capacity up to 100.
- Exposure to inclement weather conditions and potential rough seas.
- Physically fit to perform strenuous work and able to lift up to 50 lbs. on an ongoing basis.
- Must be able to lift up to 80 lbs. on an occasional basis.
Responsibilities
JOB DUTIES:
- Responsible for line handling, taking on fuel and water, handling of gangways, removal of trash and basic vessel and engine maintenance.
- Functions as one of the key crew members when instituting emergency procedures, following the emergency checklist and explaining any deviation from the latter.
- Applies knowledge of and explains the first actions to take in the event of man overboard and vessel flooding.
- Assists with training crew members during periodic drills.
