Summary:

OIMT manages and operates a 24x7x365 DOI Shared Services Enterprise Datacenter. The Albuquerque Data Center (ADC) is a commercially owned and government operated TIER III Datacenter. The Datacenter Branch/OIMT (DCB) directly manages the ADC and the DCB is managed by a Federal Data Center Manager and includes federal staff and contractors that provide critical Data Center monitoring and operational support, ensuring the availability and reliability of ADC enterprise systems and infrastructure. This Branch provides logistical and technical support for ADC infrastructure, communications links for various computer systems, networks, and backup in the ADC that are essential for a resilient environment that the ADC customers depend on. The Branch is responsible for configuration management and extensive use of monitoring systems for infrastructure; infrastructure systems, security monitoring, access controls and infrastructure break/fix support. This Branch will assist with the implementation of the OIMT strategic plan to ensure availability and functionality of enterprise computing resources. One of the primary roles of this Branch is a Datacenter Operations Center (DOC). DOC activities shall take place in Albuquerque, New Mexico at the ADC located at 1011 Indian School Road, NW. Data Center Technician shall provide staffing for a 24x7x365 operation with at least 1 employee for each shift. The Datacenter Analyst, Datacenter Administrator III or any position higher shall work regular business hours unless otherwise agreed to by the Federal Functional/Task lead. Coverage for designated Data Center Operations is required 24x7x365 including Federal Holidays and weekends. Contract Staff designated to work regular business hours as identified above may be scheduled to work during non-business hours with 24-hour notice or be called in with 1 hour notice to work any incident as determined by the Federal Functional/Task lead. The ADC cannot be monitored effectively remotely and requires physical presence to perform the tasks. Location: Albuquerque, NM - Not eligible for remote work at this time. 

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Shall escort visitors to include 3rd party vendors in the OIMT secure areas.
  • Data Center Technician shall ensure that all visitors sign in and are aware of and follow all OIMT and visitor policies and procedures.
  • Work with and propose to the Federal Data Center Manager on the design, improvement and implementation of ADC policy, processes, procedures and SOPs in writing and in the accepted OIMT format within an agreed upon timeframe.
  • These shall follow industry standards and best practices for Data Centers and federally applicable mandates and regulations.
  • Perform Service Desk activities such as answering customer phone calls/emails/fax, after-hours from the regular scheduled Service Center support as described in the Functional Area 2 Task 1 (Service Center task). This is to provide a limited 24x7x365 Service Desk capability.
  • Assists the Federal Data Center Manager with customer relationship management for OIMT and its internal/external Data Center customers.
  • Responsible for the collection/analysis, authoring, and communication of requirements with these entities. Communications, written or oral, must be articulate and professional.
  • Perform some of the functions as outlined in Functional Area 1, Task 3 (systems administration task) as it relates to systems specific to the management of the datacenter infrastructure, security and access.
  • Perform facilities monitoring of the physical infrastructure of the data center for items such as power consumption, power outages, HVAC performance, humidity alarms, security cameras, UPS, fire systems, etc. Monitoring will be done via physical inspections and via government supplied monitoring tools, such as Nlyte.
  • Open tickets for monitoring and outages, whether system or network related, and ensure tickets are assigned to the proper group(s) for resolution. 
  • Work with other staff in developing and documenting new procedures which relate to the management and operations of the ADC.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with customers for server, network, storage, and infrastructure equipment placement, installation, and provide maintenance and troubleshooting as required.
  • Install/uninstall, troubleshoot/resolve power and network connections for server, infrastructure components, or systems.
  • Monitor data center infrastructure, computer hardware and operating systems performance using support applications. Create and support special reporting capabilities and interfaces to infrastructure monitoring/management systems.
  • Confer and coordinate with system manufacturer’s representatives to diagnose equipment problems as appropriate.
  • Assist with accurately documenting complex Storage Arrays and Local Area Network (LAN) fiber optic, as well as copper data communications, within ADC Assist with troubleshooting complex Storage Arrays and Local Area Network fiber optic, as well as copper communications connections, within ADC.
  • Research and advise team of acquisition of computing, network/communications equipment as it relates to areas of expertise.
  • Coordinate and complete Break/Fix hardware replacement of data center components, including the use of computer aided diagnostics as appropriate.
  • Coordinate/notify department and customers through IT Services Change Control for infrastructure and systems downtimes and maintenance windows.
  • Monitor electrical power and conversion and distribution systems in ADC where/when applicable.
  • Assist with system and data backups/restores, including media changes and transfers between sites.

  • Monitor, analyze, and run scripts for ADC support and infrastructure systems and components.
  • Monitor and maintain document libraries Maintain inventory of data center infrastructure components, supplies, and will provide for transportation of equipment to various storage sites.
  • Prepare for signature the decommissioning and surplus of equipment to ensure proper disposal in accordance with OIMT property management. Keep data center organized and clean and maintain a professional appearance at all times.
  • Assist with stores/spares management, including coordinating shipping and receiving with vendors and the loading docks.
  • Coordinate/manage media destruction including effective tracking.
  • Monitor and respond to environmental alarms generated from monitoring hardware and software tools that support cooling, Power equipment, Fire Alarms, etc.
  • Troubleshoot and configure infrastructure, and systems parameters to maintain equipment viability.
  • Monitor and fulfil Service Desk tickets for operational requests in accordance with OIMT service management framework.
  • Create and update Standard Operations Procedure Manuals with updates to processes and procedures.
  • Maintain Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) data base of servers, infrastructure, POC information, etc.
  • Create and maintain appropriate operational documentation to include maintaining daily/weekly/monthly/quarterly/annually and other operations reports and generate as required or requested. Deploy, and update other online operational reporting capabilities related to the ADC.
  • Coordinate and manage the badging for the ADC and associated OIMT workspaces in accordance with OIMT policy and procedures.
  • Actively promote and comply with IT Services software, hardware and policy standards. 
  • Monitor and manage ADC support systems and infrastructure for the following: problems, production scheduling, and control, report distribution, service level support, administration and controls, systems availability and backup recovery.
  • Investigate and ensure resolution of all ADC infrastructure problems.
  • Assists systems and programming personnel as requested.
  • Log and document ADC production problems, including creating and managing incidents and providing after actions reports and recommendations.
  • Identify recurring and potential operations problems in writing with analysis of alternatives, cost benefit analysis and return on investment. 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree or combination of education and experience IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) version 4, CompTIA A certification
  • Minimum of 6 months of related technical experience in supporting Information Technology environment and a managed computer room, facility or datacenter. Support would include (but not limited to): administration and configuration of datacenter infrastructure and support management systems.
  • Must be able to obtain a Government Public Trust clearance.
  • Must be able to pass a full criminal record background check, to include a credit check and drug/alcohol screening.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current Public trust and/or government security clearance highly desirable.
  • Alaska Native and/or American Indian experience
