In this role, you will define critical design requirements for battery cells and system. Additionally, you will design mechanical components for thermal and fluid transfer, including verification testing of those components. You will bring expertise in design and analysis of pressure relief features in plastic materials, fabricated with molding, or related processes. 

Responsibilities

• Design plastic components and specify critical interfaces for implementation in battery cells.
• Lead and support the engineering activities for large scale product development programs by investigating feasibility, performing design using 3-D modeling software, conduct layout review and 2D drawing creation.
• Own analysis and prototyping efforts for plastic components; familiar with quick-turn fabrication methods to prove out design concepts
• Develop and execute verification, validation, and reliability test plans to demonstrate sheet metal and plastic components meet functional and lifetime requirements
• Analyze and resolve complex problems independently or with minimal guidance.
• Create part specification requirements and BOM.
• Negotiate with surrounding component business units and suppliers.
• Perform cost analysis, strength calculations and material selection.
• Use best practices and knowledge of internal or external business issues to improve product and/or processes.
• Search new ways to increase overall efficiency, utilize up-to-date technology, and reduce design and parts costs
• Travel to client sites required.

• Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 5 yrs relevant industry experience
• Education with the following specialties preferred: Mechanical, Mechanical Technology, Aerospace, Automotive, Manufacturing.
• Expert in designing large plastic components; familiar with fabrication processes
• Experience using 3-D modeling software tools (Solidworks preferred).
• Experience supporting manufacturing ramp of plastic components and assemblies
• Strong understanding of DFM (Design for Manufacturing) required.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in MS office.
