This role will support Test Engineers in prepping the cars for radio frequencies and doing the test setup. Performs set-up, testing, fabrication and supporting calculations and may conduct moderate analysis. Compiles and organizes technical data and may make recommendations. Maintains and is able to troubleshoot test equipment in respective area. Fully proficient in usage of equipment and machinery. May identify and resolve routine and moderately complex problems. Plans activities within specific guidelines to meet deadlines. Normally receives little or no instruction on routine activities and receives general instruction on new assignments

Selected candidate will lead measurement and basic analysis of various antenna form factors such as printed on-glass, roof-mounted micro poles, sharkfin-style combination antennas, patch antennas, or other hidden antenna designs mounted on the interior or exterior of the vehicle.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with test engineers and the technician supervisor to set up, conduct, analyze, and tear down tests as they pertain to the department’s responsible areas.
  • Travel to off-site proving grounds required.
  • Operate low frequency tapered chamber and high frequency spherical nearfield chamber
  • Measure antenna performance characteristics for validating and improving vehicle reception system design
  • Support implementation of corrective action plans resulting from design or manufacturing concerns
  • Ensures adherence to both industry and customer standards and best practices, and compliance to any applicable board and reviews
  • Experience troubleshooting electrical hardware, vehicle sub-systems, and interactions
  • Interpret test requirements to generate test procedures and create detailed test manuals
  • Monitor test facility and equipment usage for utilization reports and projections
  • Keep a well-organized, clean shop area, lock tool boxes and keep track of tools
  • Travel to off-site proving grounds or test facilities as needed.
Requirements
  • Associate's degree with relevant industry experience
  • Experience instrumenting vehicles and using data acquisition tools
  • Hands-on skills to prepare prototype vehicles for testing, troubleshooting vehicle/equipment issues, as well as propose/solve related issues.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and willing to document and report findings beyond the standard test procedure preferred.
  • Strong computer skills with Microsoft office (Outlook, Excel, Power Point) and data collection software preferred.
  • High mechanical aptitude and automotive technician experience preferred.
  • Possess a valid driver license to operate vehicles on campus as well as vehicle proving grounds.
  • Ability to perform routine activities with little or no instruction, perform new assignments with general instruction.
