The Process Meat Scientist will work with various departments on the production floor to understand how each production line and department operates in our processing plants. They will spend an extensive period learning about Godshall’s finished products and expected product quality, the process flow, and the operation of the equipment in each department and how it impacts the finished product. As the Process Meat Scientist, you will be expected to utilize your understanding of meat science to add value to the company’s success in producing high-quality meat products. This position will report directly to the Director of Food Processing Technology.

Duties and Responsibilities

Primary job duties and responsibilities include:

• Participate in departmental meetings and support operations that work with the plant to improve product efficiencies and yields.
• Knowledge of general company policies and job-specific standard operating procedures (SOPs), training requirements, and personal protective equipment.

• Gain an understanding of the different areas in production and operating efficiencies.
• Maintain knowledge of yields and variances, methods of calculations, typical problem areas and methods for corrections and improvement.
• Aid in ensuring federal and state compliance with all USDA and company Food Safety and QA policies and procedures. Responsible for assigned locations where mandatory information is maintained according to company policies and procedures.
• Developing a competent workforce by utilizing hands-on training methods in the work area

• Collaborate with FSQA to ensure the production of wholesome products that meet product specifications.
• Maintain adequate knowledge of product specifications, equipment, employee job qualifications, and tasks.
• Develop a collaborative relationship with all departments.

• Conduct in-plant tests to improve products and processes.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications required to successfully perform the job include:

• Bachelor's degree from a four-year university or college. Related areas of study include animal science, meat science, food science, or poultry science.
• Pays excellent attention to detail.
• Good problem-solving skills.
• Good project management skills with the ability to manage simultaneous projects.
• Strong sense of urgency and works well in a fast-paced environment.

• Good critical thinking and judgment skills to reach the best possible solution to a problem.

• Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of people such as hourly employees, managers, and senior management.

· Intern experience within a meat or food processing company.

· Experience with Microsoft Office - Excel, Word, PowerPoint.

• Good with data collection and analysis.

Working Conditions

Must be able to work in various work environments (Office/Production). While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and heavy meat processing equipment. Commonly exposed to colder temperatures and fast-paced plant environment that is wet, humid, and undergoes temperature changes.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Ability to stand or walk for extended periods.
