GIS/Mapping Department
McPherson County is seeking a Full-time Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Coordinator in the GIS/Mapping Department. The GIS Coordinator will construct, develop, and maintain maps, layers, and shape files for McPherson County GIS, and work with other local and State agencies in advanced GIS usage. Position reports to Administration.
Related Responsibilities: aid in the process of Deed Transfers, Court Records and other documents, which affect property ownership; make changes in GIS pertaining to splits, combinations, and corrections; assure that correct parcel identification numbers are assigned to the sales validation questionnaires for the sales record; work with Public Works, 911/Emergency Communications, and other Local Government Offices and Entities as needed; and attend training courses as necessary to keep software up to date.
Position Requirements: ability to read legal descriptions and draw corresponding property lines on maps by interpreting surveyor's terminology; familiarity with general laws regarding transfer of property and abstracting; recognition of type of land use; knowledge of location of property and roads and the value of property throughout the county; ability to use a computer with ESRI GIS Mapping Software; and occasionally work outdoors.
Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Cartography, Computer Science, Land Planning, or other closely related degree with course work in cartography preferred. Technical school graduate with similar emphasis, or two years’ experience will be considered. Knowledge of Microsoft SQL preferred. Must have a valid Kansas driver’s license.
Position will include introductory wage increase upon successful evaluation, followed by annual wage increases. Employee will receive full county benefits.
