Job Description

Responsible for overseeing and managing all phases of new product development throughout a product’s lifecycle from ideation to commercialization for GNC private brands.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Product Development Process
    • Collaborate with multiple departments on product innovation. Gather and review documents required for product intake. Set up meetings and lead discussions to understanding product vision.
    • Generate comprehensive timelines. Establish milestones and tasks and customize durations specific to a product’s needs while considering desired marketing date. 
    • Work with cross-functional partners (both internal and external) to ensure key milestones and supporting tasks are completed on time. 
    • Send out RFQ to vendors, gather bids, and prepare a detailed bid summary with recommendations. Report findings to manager and director to determine best partner.
    • Prepare a risk assessment and re-assess risk throughout the project life cycle. Proactively recognize potential issues, consider solutions, and report findings. 
    • Participate in product sensory evaluations. Must be able to understand the customer expectation, competitive landscape in addition to personal preference when providing feedback.
    • Work with subject matter experts such as quality, R&D and technical PD. Must be able to understand their areas of responsibility and interaction necessary as it relates to milestone required for formula approval to eventual product release.
    • Kick-off projects with packaging department for label creation and be a key participate in the label review process. Must be able to gather, review for accuracy then upload documents into WorkFront for art round review. 
  • Communication & Reporting
    • Manage and update product status using varying systems or standard documents. Report out status at a re-occurring period or impromptu request.
    • Must be comfortable in communicating clearly, leading discussions, and influencing others.
    • Participate in multiple weekly meetings. This includes calls with external partners and meetings with internal cross-functional teams. Must be able to recognize the need for additional meetings/calls to facilitate communication or address an urgent issue.
    • Maintain accurate records that are organized and saved in appropriate locations for access company wide.
    • Inform management immediately of any interruption/delay of the project’s timeline. Be prepared with issues and solutions.
    • Seek to develop improvements to processes or create processes where applicable.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in science, Art, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the key accountabilities of the job required
  • Advanced degree (MBA, Master’s) preferred
  • 5 years of specific experience in project management/ product development for private label consumer packaged goods
  • Interest in health and wellness products and lifestyle
  • Hybrid work environment, 2-3 days in-person attendance is required (Pittsburgh, PA) in addition to ability to work remotely. 
  • Ability to communicate written and verbally in a professional manner with people at all levels of the organization and external contacts.
  • Adaptability and flexibility to focus quickly on changing situations or revised goals.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Detail oriented, strong analytical skills, team-player
  • High degree of proficiency MS Office Suite, Outlook & Internet applications
  • Strong analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, problem-solving, presentation, budgeting, project management (from conception to completion), & planning skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills (including analysis, interpretation, & reasoning)
  • Solid understanding and application of mathematical concepts
  • Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with peers and colleagues across the organization, as well as internal and external clients.
  • Ability to work well autonomously and within a team in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment.
  • Self-motivated with critical attention to detail, deadlines, and reporting
