ABLE members will impact the community in several ways at the Gloria J. Parks Community Center. You will be working directly with youth grades K-8. This is an opportunity to use your creativity, enthusiasm, and talents to help make summer memorable for children aged 5 through 12 years. Members must have: Previous experience working as a volunteer or paid staff with children grades K – 8 and experience working with racially diverse student groups that would foster cultural competence.
Under the direction of Classroom Teachers, assist in the implementation of the Summer Camp Program at Gloria J. Parks Community Center.
Duties And Responsibilities
-Cooperate with Classroom Teacher to facilitate academic instruction.
-Provide input and implement enrichment activities alongside Classroom Teacher.
-Collaborate with Classroom Teacher to design enrichment activities based on personal strengths.
-Working with the Classroom Teacher oversee the classroom and provide an environment that is safe, comfortable, encourages learning, independent work skills, and positive communication skills.
-Under the guidance of the Classroom Teacher, provide alternative activities, worksheets, projects, and task for students.
-Communicate any needs, issues, or positive feedback to Program Director and Classroom Teacher in a timely manner so that any needs can be addressed appropriately.
-Maintain classroom ratio and adhere to NYS Office of Children and Family Services School Aged Childcare regulations.
-Aid in Completing & maintaining all classroom records (attendance, surveys, lesson plans, communication logs, incident reports, etc.)
-Daily tasks and other duties, as necessary, for program operations.
-Complete assigned trainings, both in person and virtually, that are both required, and suggested, in order to best serve the students in program.
Members serve 9-weeks, full-time (35-40 hours per week), for a 300-hour-minimum term of service beginning in mid-late June.

About Gloria J. Parks:
The Gloria J. Parks Community Center was built in 1993. It serves children and adults from inner city Buffalo. Our after school and summer programs provide academic skill-building activities, a wide range of enrichment activities, and parent enrichment seminars. We also offer Can You Hear Me Now?, a teen open mic program that gives youth a platform to develop new creative work and interpersonal skills. Our Athletic Department offers low and no cost youth and adult sports leagues in our large gym. Our Senior Activities Program offers fitness, educational, and recreational activities and hot lunches (virtually and outdoors).
