Global Science & Technology, Inc. is Hiring a Budget Analyst Near Silver Spring, MD

GST is seeking an experienced Budget Analyst to join our team in support of the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). You should have deep experience with spreadsheet analysis tools like Excel and Google Sheets. Some knowledge of government budgeting and monthly spend plan reconciliation is helpful. The ideal candidate will be a team player and function well working across multiple areas and on various budget tasks.

This position is remote; however, the expectation is that the individual will be able to commute to the Silver Spring, MD office for infrequent mandatory meetings based on the client's needs.

Position Summary:

The Budget Analyst will assist with coordination and documentation associated with the National Environmental Satellite, Data & Information Service (NESDIS) Cloud Financial project. You will assist with the coordination, management, development, and implementation of plans and procedures.

Your primary responsibility is to manage the budget spreadsheets for the NESDIS cloud project. These are primarily maintained in Google Sheets and Excel and therefore a solid working knowledge of those technologies is critical to success in this position. Some creativity in helping to visualize the data and report out spending status would be a big bonus. Dashboards charts and graphs generation are key to the role. Your other duties will be to:

  • Assist, create and manage detailed task documentation, including project reports, meeting notes, records, etc.
  • Implement and document plans and schedules for the project leadership.
  • Monitor budgets and perform in-depth analyses and reporting to advise senior leadership on financial actions.
  • Create and maintain interactive financial dashboard summaries for daily reporting.
  • Perform monthly spend plan reconciliation and provide variance explanations.
  • Support monthly program status reviews with detailed charts.

Required Education/Experience/Skills:

Bachelor of Science/Arts Degree (BS/BA) in Business Administration, Finance, or Public Administration. Formal education in IT and especially Cloud technologies is a plus.

  • 4 years of professional budget/financial management experience in an IT environment
  • Ability to meet deadlines in a highly dynamic environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of scientists, technicians, and managers.
  • Competency with Microsoft, PowerPoint, and Google product
  • Google Sheets
  • Good time management skills.
  • The ability to self-motivate, detail-oriented and highly organized.
  • Smartsheet experience is highly desirable.
  • Experience developing and managing project and action trackers.
