Role Description

The Impact Associate supports the impact platform by overseeing the application of the GEM IMP Framework, underwriting the impact of our investments, monitoring and reporting on existing investments, performing market research on impact investing, and contributing to the team and firm leadership’s understanding of key impact issues through research, external partnerships, and firm-wide engagement. This role will report to the Impact Director.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Oversee the application of the GEM IMP Framework
  • Engage with investment professionals to ensure precision and integrity in the application of IMP framework to investments
  • Support team in developing insights and thought leadership related to specific impact areas, particularly those with more nuanced or highly variable impact outcomes
  • Work directly with investment fund managers to establish impact reporting expectations and monitor impact reporting
• Evaluate, monitor, and report on impact outcomes
  • Apply the IMP framework to investments
  • Develop internal and external impact reports and communications
  • Understand client missions and values to evaluate investment alignment with client’s objectives
• Industry research, thought leadership, and field-building
  • Develop thought leadership, white papers, and exhibits that differentiate GEM as thought leader in impact investing field
  • Engage with key impact industry constituents and represent GEM at industry events
  • Support research work for impact-focused topics such as catalytic capital and program-related investments
• Client service
  • Work with GEM’s Client Group to ensure consistent, high-quality client engagement
  • Prepare impact investment presentations and discussion topics for client meetings
  • Engage with members of client staff, investment committee, and board on all aspects of client engagement related to impact investing mandate.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree with a track record of strong academic performance
• 3-6 years of experience in investing, impact evaluation, or a similar role
• Impact evaluation in non-profit or for-profit setting is preferred

• Position type – Full-time
• Work schedule – Minimum 40 hours/week
• Work location – Hybrid (3 days in-office, 2 days remote) subject to manager discretion
• Work environment – Office
• Essential physical requirements – Ability to sit and work on a computer for an extended period
• Travel requirements – Up to 15 percent
