This position, reports to the Rigging Supervisor.

Overview:

Performs specific rigging operations using lever and chain hoists, reeving, rigging hitches and knots, anchor points, synthetic ropes, wire ropes, chains, spreader bars, synthetic slings, lifting points, dollies, trollies, winches, bars and levelers, and rigging jacks. Duties related to selecting and attaching hoisting and pulling gear for lifting, moving and positioning heavy machines, items of equipment, large structural parts and other heavy objects. Also, in relation to the fabricating, installation and repairs of standing and running rigging and wire cable, fiber or synthetic rope articles. Will be required to handle every type, kind and size object, aboard ships and in shops, with the help of cranes, chain and lever hoists.

Major Activities Performed:

1. Be knowledgeable in the requirements of the NAVFAC P 307.

2. Adhere to all Safety requirements and safe practices.

3. As Boat Coxswain, ensure safe boat operations and ensure all embarked riders and deck hands comply with PPE and Safety requirements.

4. Guide Rigger Helpers or other trades when assigned to assist.

5. Responsible for the proper check in/out of all WHE equipment.

6. Responsible for the proper marking of all WHE equipment.

7. May be required to travel up to 25% to conduct company business.

8. Must know all Standard Operating Procedures pertaining to environmental protection.

9. Assist in the receipt, moor and departure of vessels.

10. Adhere to all corporate core values, policies and procedures in the execution of all responsibilities.

11. Must be able to work effectively with co-workers in a professional manner at all times.

12. Must be available to work overtime if required.

13. May be exposed to sharp edges, fall hazards, hazardous chemicals and conditions, poor illumination and inclement weather.

14. Shall handle weights to 100 pounds with an average of 50 pounds and carry up to a distance of 200 feet.

15. Position requires climbing of vertical and inclined ladders and brief periods in strained positions, such as kneeling, stooping or maneuvering in close quarters.

16. Other work as assigned and which the employee is qualified and able to perform in support of other trades or evolutions required for safe operation of the site and proper execution of contractual requirements.

Requirements, qualifications, or skills:

Minimum:

Must possess an intermediate level of proficiency in all rigger tasks. Be proficient in load dynamics and load weight estimation or determination as they relate to the rigging operation, calculation of equipment capacities, and apply D/d ratios, vectors, and angles. Must be able to read English and have a general knowledge of blueprints, specifications, diagrams and sketches. Should have a sound knowledge of the basic mechanisms and be able to select the proper work procedure and equipment. Must have a valid driver’s license and qualify to operate government/company vehicles in accordance with the Corporate Fleet Vehicle Safety Manual.

Must satisfactorily complete the following qualifications/certifications within specified time period:

  • Successfully complete the NAVFAC P-307 Rigging Practices exam within 30 days.
  • Qualify as a Workboat Crewmember within 6 months (LCM type)
  • Qualify as a Forklift Operator within 90 days
  • Qualify as a Signalman within 90 days

Preferred: Three (3) years of experience as a Rigger or relevant experience in the military.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $28.00 - $29.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
