    PURPOSE:

    To support the District’s strategic plan, the Director of Food Service is committed to by helping students achieve their potential by providing nutritious meals that promote proper growth and development, in a welcoming, pleasant environment. The Director of Food Service is focused on service. In addition, the Director of Food Service fosters proactive, open communication between the Food Service Department, the educational community, parents and students.
    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • 1) A Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent educational experience, with academic major or concentration in food and nutrition, food service management, dietetics, family and consumer sciences, nutrition education, culinary arts, business or a related field or2) Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent educational experience, with any academic major or area of concentration, and a State recognized certificate for school nutrition directors or 3) Bachelor’s degree in any academic major and at least 2 years of relevant school nutrition program experience or Associates degree or equivalent educational experience with academic major or concentration in food and nutrition, food service management, dietetics, family and consumer sciences, nutrition education, culinary arts, business or a related field and at least 2 years of relevant school nutrition program experience.
    • Demonstrated ability to work as an effective team leader.
    • Demonstrated ability to work with groups in the integration of nutrition into other core areas.
    • Skill in motivating and supervising food service personnel.
    • Knowledge of National School Lunch Program food service program requirements.
    • Technology skills to efficiently interpret maintain records and complete reports, including web-based reporting.
    • Strong written and oral communication skills.
    • Ability to effectively promote the food service program to children, school personnel and the public and publicize the nutrition integrity of school meals with the Executive Director of Communication.
    • Considerable knowledge of quantity food production and serving techniques, food safety/sanitation requirements and procedures.
    • An understanding of food service program finances.
    • Ability to prioritize, work under time constraints and be flexible in an environment of multiple tasks and challenging priorities.

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Administers the food service program in a multiple-site program according to policies and procedures, and federal/state requirements.
    • Supervises and trains food service personnel.
    • Develops and maintains high standards of food preparation and service with emphasis on menu appeal and nutritional value.
    • Maintains high standards of sanitation and safety.
    • Maintains records of income and expenditures, food, supplies, personnel and equipment.
    • Facilitates cooperation with education partners such as administrators, teachers, parents and students.
    • Plans and analyzes menus for all schools in the district to ensure that all state, federal and district guidelines are met.
    • Plans menu adaptations for children with special needs.
    • Maintains a purchasing system consistent with state, federal and district guidelines.
    • Enforces federal and state regulations regarding nutritional standards, reports and records.
    • Prepares and maintains all records for required audits and reviews.
    • Oversees the administration of the district’s free and reduced price meals program according to federal regulations.
    • Prepares, monitors and administers the food services budget. Monitors and analyzes all revenue sources.
    • Reviews and authorizes all program expenditures.
    • Assesses customer preference, industry trends and current research to develop a long range plan that facilitates continuous program improvement.
    • Maintains an efficient food service operation and a high quality food service staff by recruiting, selecting, training, scheduling, supervising and evaluating all food service personnel.
    • Coordinates all equipment maintenance and building repairs with the appropriate school district personnel or a private service provider.
    • Ensures that established sanitation and safety standards are maintained.
    • Develops a marketing plan that promotes the school nutrition services to students, parents, other school personnel, and the community.
    • Develops and implements a catering plan that is consistent with district policies.
    ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP: Reports to the Assistant Superintendent of Business Services
    TERM: 10 months (School Year some additional days)
