Glens Falls YMCA is Hiring a Childcare Coordinator Near Glens Falls, NY

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Reporting to the Senior Director of Childcare, the Childcare Coordinator provides support to daily operations and staff for Y BASE (Before and After School Enrichment) programs, our Child Watch Room and Summer Day Camp. This position will manage, hire, and train part-time staff serving in schools in our communities, our child watch area and our day camps. The ideal candidate has a passion for impacting the lives of youth in the community, is detail-oriented, an effective listener, a strong team builder and has a passion for serving others.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong written and oral communication skills, and computer skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with other staff, participants and parents, colleagues, community partners and schools.
  • Ability to direct programs through supervision of staff and program development.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and implement program activities.
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Experience with assisting with curriculum implementation, classroom management, and parental communication, preferred.
  • Experience with OCFS regulations and DOH regulations preferred.
  • Meet educational and experience qualifications as set forth by state licensing regulations (ex. Associate's degree in child development, elementary education, physical education or related field and equivalent years of experience).
  • You are willing to complete OCFS (Office of Children and Family Services) training requirements and paperwork. 15 hours within the first six months/30 hours over the next 2 years.
  • You are currently certified (with documentation) or are willing to certify in Infant-Child CPR and Basic First Aid within 30 days of employment (YMCA will assist in this process.) 
  • You are willing to submit a background clearance (fingerprinting) with OCFS and reference check (before the first day of employment).
  • You are able to provide proof of a negative TB test within the last 12 months and submit a medical statement on forms provided prior to starting at a BASE site.
  • You are able to complete online Child Abuse Prevention training, and other online and in-person training as required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Direct and supervise program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill the YMCA’s objectives. Including but not limited to, program curriculum appropriate for the age of the children in our programs, help prepare sites for OCFS yearly inspections and DOH inspections during summer camp.
  • Ensure proper registration for program participants.
  • Monitor daily program operations to adhere to all Dept. of Health Codes (DOH), the NYS Office of Child and Family Services (OCFS) Regulations CACFP regulations and YMCA health and safety regulations.
  • Visit all sites weekly to assist in the orientation and supervision of BASE programs regarding OCFS regulations and Y policies and act as a floater for coverage as needed.
  • Help maintain accurate records for staff and children. Per OCFS regulations, DOH regulations and the Y’s policies.
  • Staff scheduling for Child Watch, BASE Programs, Kids’ Night Out/Teen Night Out, Camp B.R.E.A.K, Snow Day B.R.E.A.K and Summer Camp.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining a positive childcare staff team, working toward the same goals, with a vision of offering high-quality, high-value programs for participants.
  • Attend and participate in program activities, staff development, and required staff trainings.
  •  Additional duties assigned and required by supervisors to support the overall mission of the YMCA and promote the success of the childcare development.
