As an Employee Relations Specialist in our Human Resources department, you will be a key partner in enabling and fostering the Forest Lawn culture. You will partner directly with talented, caring, and compassionate employees in various departments such as, Mortuary, Funeral Services, Maintenance, Sales, and Technology Services. You will also work closely with HR, legal counsel, and organizational leaders to develop and tactfully execute HR strategies focused on employee relations, inclusion, organizational effectiveness, training, and employee engagement.
Our Human Resources team is located in Glendale, CA and is responsible for supporting 13 Forest Lawn locations throughout Southern California.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING Employee Relations: - Maintain and foster effective lines of communication with all employees and management.
- Provide information on employee morale, attitudes, and areas of concern throughout the organization through HR programs and park visits. Propose new methods of reaching out to the employee population.
- Provide general information to employees and management regarding Forest Lawn policies, practices, and procedures.
- Assist employees in resolving work related concerns.
- With the guidance of our Legal department, assist, guide and coach management in resolving employee related issues. Mediate between employees and management when necessary.
- Assist management in creating disciplinary memorandums, performance appraisals and new employee progress reports.
- Conduct workplace internal investigations and provide recommendations as to appropriate action and resolution.
- Participate in conducting employee surveys and assist with analyzing responses and creating action plans from survey results.
- Conduct New Hire Orientation which includes a guided tour of Forest Lawn Glendale.
- Conduct exit interviews.
- Participate in Pre-Discharge Review Hearings.
- Guide employees in the process of Grievance Procedures and Termination Appeal Board Hearings. Participate in the Binding Arbitration Process as needed.
Training and Development: - Work closely with the Learning and Development Specialist to identify areas of organizational development, creating or enhancing curriculums and conducting various training sessions such as Sexual Harassment Prevention.
- Assist with various training sessions, including Introduction to Leadership at Forest Lawn modules, as required.
- Assist with annual training programs by partnering with outside training companies to propose topics that will further develop our Management Team and employees who work directly with our client families. Assist with coordination of these sessions.
Other: - Manage the placement process of temporary employees and ensure compliance of internal guidelines.
- Respond to EDD Unemployment Claims and attend unemployment appeal hearings.
- Maintain state and federal employment compliance standards; consult with legal counsel as needed.
- Maintain, monitor and ensure the accurate completion of I-9 documents. Notifying employees in writing of document renewal dates.
- Evaluate and propose recommendations to current department programs and processes to ensure best practices.
- Compile data for annual and semi-annual reports.
- Gather HR Metrics information on a quarterly basis including turnover rates, track of exit interviews with reasons for separations.
- Stay informed of Human Resources developments and trends by attending seminars and webinars.
- Participate in the annual Wage & Salary Review process by conducting research and provide recommendations.
- Participate in special programs as requested by the association.
- Conduct special projects and other related duties as needed.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS - Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university (will consider degree in progress).
- Minimum three years of professional experience in several areas of Human Resources, such as talent acquisition, compensation, employee relations, training, safety, and benefits.
- Bilingual in Chinese or Spanish
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Able to communicate with all levels of employees and management.
- Be comfortable working flexible hours during periods of heavy demand; work nonstandard days and hours to complete the tasks required.
- Able to handle difficult situations with little supervision. Desire to foster a teamwork environment and promote positive organization relations.
- Valid California Driver's License.
- Knowledge of complaint investigation, conflict resolution, and general Human Resource management principles and practices.
