SUMMER/SEASONAL JOB OPENING

 Lifeguard/Swim Instructor

Season: Memorial Day – Labor Day (Training will begin mid-April and will require evening and weekend availability.)

Certification must be completed and passed to move forward in this position.

Hours: Shifts are available in 4 to 6-hour increments during the operating hours of 6:00am-9:00pm

Location: Sunset Pool – 483 Fairview Ave., Glen Ellyn, IL 60137

Pay Rate: $14.00-$17.00/hr. depending on qualifications.

A summer as a Lifeguard/Swim Instructor will give you the opportunity to hone your leadership skills, learn how to be cool under pressure, and learn about aquatic safety.

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the direction and supervision of the Special Facilities Manager and Pool Managers, the Lifeguard/Swim Instructor will provide instruction for swim lessons and supervise swimmers while monitoring and supervising designated swimming areas. Duties include but are not limited to: following appropriate curriculum for the swim level assigned, monitoring and communicating progress to parents, keeping daily records, maintaining constant surveillance to ensure the safety of participants in the water, adhering to and enforcing all policies and procedures, completing required in-service trainings, and assist with maintaining the cleanliness of the pool deck. Additionally, will recognize and prevent potential hazardous or accident situations. This is an at-will position.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND TRAINING:

• The ideal candidate will be service oriented, dependable and reliable with a strong sense of safety and responsibility for the teaching and care of children and adults.
• Previous experience interacting with children is preferred.
• Must be 15 or older with reliable transportation to and from work.
• Confident in ability to swim and comfortable in the water for long periods of time.
• Ability to pick up a 10-pound brick from 12’ of water, swim 300-yards and tread water for 2 minutes without the use of hands is required.
• Confident in instructing swim lessons for individuals of all ages and abilities.
• Strong and effective communication skills with the ability and desire to provide quality customer service is essential.
• Excellent eyesight with the ability to focus for extended periods of time.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Capacity to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time while outside in various weather conditions including high heat and humidity.
• Available to work a flexible schedule including mornings, weekends, and holidays.
